Night Beds

Night Beds, the musical project of 26-year-old Colorado Springs native Winston Yellen, received much acclaim for his 2013 debut album, Country Sleep, scoring plaudits for its tortured take on alt country and Yellen's soaring vocals. But Yellen has always been much more than another singer-songwriter. "When Country Sleep came out, I had never made songs like that before," explains Yellen, who currently splits his time between Nashville and Los Angeles. "That was a departure for me. That wasn't my bread and butter." The charismatic, enticingly unhinged Yellen had been living in a house that used to belong to Johnny Cash and the atmosphere had taken an effect, but after finishing that album and before Country Sleep was even released, Yellen began experimenting with the kind of melancholic, neon-tinged R&B that makes up the mesmerising Ivywild.

WATCH // Night Beds Perform “22” for Paste Magazine

Paste Magazine shares Night Beds new Riverview Session, filmed outside in Austin during the storm that was SXSW last week. Night Beds chose to perform “22” and we can now say with certainty this band delivers regardless of the circumstances, still surprising us with their endless talent at every turn. Watch the session at PASTE.

Night Beds at SXSW

“Winston Yellen’s falsetto filled a packed Red 7, delivering lush and note-perfect renditions of their songs… Yellen is also quite visually engaging as a frontman. Who knew that sensitive crooner was such a badass?”Pitchfork

“As such It can be hard to find a quiet place, let alone find a quiet band that can hold the attention of a big bar crowd. And yet, the soaring and emotional vocals of Night Beds’ Winston Yellon has that capacity to enrapture the room into silence.”Soundcheck WNYC

“Best band: Night Beds. First gig of the first night, first goose bumps of SXSW.”Time Out New York

“…wrapped their set with a whisper, then a wallop. Impressive.”The Key WXPN

WATCH // Night Beds Perform Live for Lawrence High School’s Film & Media Series

Night Beds stopped by Room 125 at Lawrence High School for a another beautiful live session (aren’t they all, really?) and interview. It’s all for an ongoing project film & media students started awhile ago. You can watch “Lost Springs” and “Was I For You?” in our Youtube playlist above. I personally recommend paying special attention to the 1:50 mark in “Was I For You”; Winston and Caleb work some special harmonizing magic. Siggghhhh.

Did you see Winston on Rachael Ray earlier this week? SPIN certainly did, which means you probably should too….fast forward to the 3:40 mark and open your eyes.

WOW // Night Beds In a Near Perfect Tiny Desk Concert

Every part of me wants to post this Tiny Desk concert and include only one word -> WOW. No lengthy introduction or description could make you fall more in love with Night Beds; you simply just need to watch and watch you will! The four-song set includes Country Sleep‘s “Faithful Heights,” “Ramona,” “22” and an older track, “Hide From It.”

“…one of 2013’s most arresting new voices.”Robin Hilton, NPR Music

Now go witness the beautiful thing that is Night Beds in person. They are currently touring the US, with European dates to follow. See all HERE.
