White Hinterland’s Shawn Creeden has already proven himself a modern renaissance man: beat maker, baker, wildlife artist extraordinaire. Now, he’s a published author. This Is The Same Hillside, his document of adventures under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms is available now from Publication Studio. According to the publishing house: “(Creeden’s) highly personal graphic scrawl keeps the eye lingering on the page while suggesting a deeper psychological world just beneath the surface.” Ordering now.
Meanwhile, White Hinterland’s Casey Dienel was also talking literature recently with Brooklyn Vol. 1. She discussed her Hungry Oyster food blog, and the food-writing of Nabokov, F. Scott Fitzgerald and MFK Fisher.
To cap of their lovely US tour together this month and celebrate the season, White Hinterland and Jagjaguwar’s S. Carey worked up this great improved version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” They just passed it along to us. And truly, it’s just the perfect thing to send us off on our week-long winter break. Stand-up bass and mouth trombones from the S. Carey crew lay down a nice, loose jazz foundation for White Hinterlander Casey Dienel’s lilting croon. Good year, gang.
