Introducing Sun Airway and Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier

We at Dead Oceans are elated to be adding Philadelphia’s Sun Airway to our roster. We will release their debut album, Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier, on October 26th in the US and in January 2011 in the UK.

Sun Airway is led by songwriter Jon Barthmus and joined by Patrick Marsceill. Recorded primarily in Barthmus’ basement studio over the course of 18 months, the new album blends processed sounds, field recordings and timeless vocal melodies into their abstract fractured pop.

Sun Airway twists their songs with their kaleidoscopic production – lush electronic washes, synthetic textures and pulsing rhythms – obscuring the hooks in hazy pop bliss. No song on Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier represents this better than the song we are offering for free download today, “Oh Naoko.”

Album artwork, live visuals and a Here We Go Magic remix are all after the jump!

The duo expands to a full blown quintet when performing live, with projections designed for each song by Philly’s Klip Collective, creating a wondrous sensory overload. Below are the visuals designed for the  performance of “Oh, Naoko.”

Sun Airway will be performing on August 19th at the Mercury Lounge in NYC with Brahms and Class Actress.

The band recently completed a gorgeous remix of Here We Go Magic’s delightful summer song, “Casual,” that will take us breezily into the fall.
