A Mighty Big Welcome to the Luyas!

Montreal’s the Luyas have signed to Dead Oceans and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Jessie Stein steers the Luyas ship which is also manned by Pietro Amato, Mathieu Charbonneau, and Stefan Schneider. Check out the live video above to get  a taste of the Luyas. This band has such an impecable skill at creating stunning and spontaneous dream pop with such a casual grace that their music becomes that much more alluring. The joy this band finds in making this music is as readily apparent in the smiles on their faces, as it is in their sound.

The Luyas are currently working on a new full-length album, with Jeff McMurrich (Tindersticks, Constantines) working as engineer. Also contributing to the new album is friend and colleague Owen Pallett, who is lending his skills as violinist and arranger on a few songs. More on the new album soon. The Luyas will perform at Pop Montreal this weekend and the CMJ Music Festival next month in New York. For those of you heading to Pop Montreal, the Luyas are putting together an entire art installation complete w/ dancers, sculpture, lighting effects, costumes, and actors for a performance at Red Bird Studios this Saturday. Check out a couple of pics of the set after the jump.
