Phosphorescent’s Jeff Bailey Opens Rad Breakfast Taco Cafe

Have you ever experienced breakfast tacos? If you haven’t, you pretty much haven’t experienced life. These delish little guys are all over Austin, TX. For years, I have been tortured by post-SXSW pictures depicting plates of the most tasty looking tacos ever. Now, I have one more reason to pine over this Texas tradition: Whirlybird.

Tomorrow will see the opening of Whirlybird, a new breakfast taco/coffee shop that’s bringing b-tacos (yeah I just did that) to Brooklyn. So why is this news to us? Well the man behind it is none other than Jeff Bailey, bass player and singer with the gloriously talented band Phosphorscent.

Bailey is starting simply with one taco – either with or without – eggs, cheese and peppers. Coffee is coming from Brooklyn’s Oslo, where Bailey used to work. There are plans to add more tacos down the road and a special blend of coffee called “Whirlybird Roast” is currently in development by the Oslo coffee folks.

The grand opening celebration is tomorrow at 254 South 2nd Street from 4-7 PM and will feature performances from Ian O’Neil (Deer Tick) and Scott Stapleton (Virgin Forest). So, if you’re around Brooklyn, you should probably stop by.
