WATCH // A Place To Bury Strangers Share Video For “Now It’s Over”

APTBS lives up to that fatalism with a meltdown of timeless proportions, sounding like The Yardbirds as fed through a blast furnace.
Jason Heller at NPR Music

A Place to Bury Strangers is known to be a behemoth on stage, and Transfixiation is as loud as the group’s reputation merits.

A Place To Bury Strangers have shared a striking animated video for Now It’s Over off of Transfixiation out now on Dead Oceans. Cloaked in brooding rhythms and shoegaze fuzz, Now It’s Over is a haunting tale of woe from the experimental Brooklyn outfit. Featuring a protagonist who’s never quite in focus, shapeshifting shadows, and a stormy, night-time drive, the video for Now It’s Over is every part as ominous and bleak as its name suggests. Speaking of the final product, director and lead animator Dave Merson Hess explains,

I loved the mood of Now It’s Over, and the way the lyrics and arrangement captured the feeing of a breakup as a complete destruction of a particular, insular reality, a way of living being ripped apart at the seams, on both vague and sudden terms. Film noir felt like a perfect match for it. The inevitability of failure built into the genre fir the song’s lyrics, murky, reverbed vocals, and jagged guitar sounds.”

Starting today in Hong Kong they’ll orbit the globe a time or two with stops in Australia, Europe, and dates across the United States. Full list of dates below.

WATCH // A Place To Bury Strangers Shares “What We Don’t See” Video Dir. By Jimmy Fusil, EU Tour Starts Tomorrow

“APTBS recorded Transfixiation, and to us it’s a cubist self-portrait of their live presence; distorted (but accurate!), it captures the essence of their sound from multiple perspectives. Those three aren’t just loud, they move a LOT OF AIR. They move a lot of things, making and breaking them in the process”
– Jimmy Fusil [PopSoda]

A Place To Bury Strangers‘ new album, Transfixiation, is out now on Dead Oceans. Premiering this morning via Drowned In Sound, the video directed by Jimmy Fusil [PopSoda], invites us into the band’s practice from the point of view of the space itself. Watch it above, on YouTube, or for our international viewers on DailyMotion. APTBS also begin their European tour tomorrow night in Dublin at Whelan’s with September Girls.
