New Video: Citay’s “Dream Get Together”

Citay has just released a new video for the title track off of their new album Dream Get Together. It features their hometown of San Francisco prominently, as the band busks in Chinatown and drives around sight-seeing all the while keeping their mighty three guitar assault comin’ at cha. We also get a sneak peak into Citay’s practice space, and how much fun Citay’s practices must be! Very dreamy, very San Francsico, very Citay. And a special shout-out to long time Citay member Tahlia Harbour, who is playing her final show with Citay tonight at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco. She’s added a special element to the band over the last few years with her angelic pipes and musical talent. She will be missed, and everybody here at Dead Oceans wishes her well in her new endeavours! Citay has a few more dates left on their current West Coast tour. Full dates are below.

CITAY ON TOUR:

06/03 San Francisco, CA @ Cafe Du Nord w/ Barn Owl and The Sarees

06/04 Santa Cruz, CA @ The Crepe Place w/ Acid Tapestries, Grand Lake

06/05 Sonoma, CA @ HUICHICA Music Festival w/ Fruit Bats, Vetiver

06/18 Los Angeles, CA @ Spaceland

CITAY Launches Dream Get Together Project, Tour, Releases New Mp3

We’ve all done it. Over a few drinks, or a few records, among close friends, we’ve conspired to create the ultimate “best of” list, arguing over the greatest guitarist, the sickest solo, the most epic song, or the sweetest vocals. Cliché or not, it is a conversation we’ve all had.

Well, CITAY is no different. Citay not only rounds up some of the finest musicians in San Francisco to fill their ranks, but they are also huge music fans, and great students of rock history. Thus, when it came time to pick a name for their new album they picked Dream Get Together which alludes to the concept of an ideal musical pairing, or the ultimate joining of musical forces.

We were inspired by this and decided it was time to ask some of our friends in the music community what their “dream get together” would be. The response has been wonderful with contributions from Jens Lekman, The Antlers, Suckers, Steve McBean of Black Mountain and Pink Mountaintops, Nicole Atkins, Bishop Allen, Akron/Family, Excepter, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Foreign Born, tUnE-YarDs, Parts & Labor, Welcome Wagon, and more. We’ll be unraveling one “Dream Get Together” on Citay’s website every day from here on through the release of Citay’s new album by the same name on January 26. You can stay up-to-date on this project either by checking back daily on Citay’s website, or by following Dead Oceans on Twitter. Visit either link to see the first “dream get together” from Merrill Garbus of tUnE-YarDs.

We are also happy to release “Mirror Kisses” the second MP3 from Citay’s new album. Featuring Garbus guesting on lead vocals, “Mirror Kisses” was written specifically with her elastic singing voice in mind. Listen to “Mirror Kisses” HERE. Also check out updated Citay tour dates HERE.

We are thrilled to announce the details of Dream Get Together;, the third long player from San Francisco’s Citay. Coming January 26th (January 25th in the UK), Dream Get Together channels everything we love about Citay into their most cohesive and sophisticated album yet. The symphonic dueling lead guitars, soaring vocals, grandiose acoustic explorations and audacious synth solos are all present, sewn together seamlessly into an epic work.

Seldom has there been a more obvious choice for an album-opener than “Careful With That Hat,” a song propelled by a deep groove and swing that practically begs the listener to stand up and air-drum wildly. The vocals soar, the lead guitars catch fire and the mammoth solo (courtesy of guitarist Josh Pollock) builds to an ecstatic explosion. This is the shot across the bow. Citay have arrived on Dream Get Together.

CITAY Release New Remixes LP, New Video, Mp3s

CITAY have not strayed far from home in 2009, playing only about a dozen shows in their home state of California. Just because they have been off the road does not mean the band has not been hard at work. They have been writing and recording new material, as well as compiling tracks for their new release, titled simply, Remixes. Available November 3rd (November 2nd in the UK), this release contains reworkings from their 2007 album Little Kingdom.

From the ambient textures of White Rainbows’ “Eye on Dollar” remix to Cornershop’s Anthony Saffery adding sitar and percussion to “First Fantasy,” these are anything but typical remix rave-ups. These Are Powers’ Brenmar (aka Bill Salas) gives “Moonburn” a playful, skittering treatment, while Black Mountains’ Steve McBean adds his effected vocals to “Former Child” – the end result sounding more like Metallica than like Aphex Twin. While some remixes use the Citay originals as a foundation for embellishments, others simply take the audio as found sounds and source material. Either way, the reinterpretations of Citay’s music on Remixes is surprising and eye-opening. Released on vinyl LP and via digital download, Remixes is the Citay album we never thought we would hear. We are pleased to share an mp3 of White Rainbow’s remix of “Eye on the Dollar,” which is a subtle and lush reworking of the original, HERE.

Citay also recently did a Luxury Wafers session, where they performed an epic rendition of “Nice Cuffs.” The video is a nice holdover of the band live and in action, until they tour extensively in 2010 in support of a new LP. Check out the entire Luxury Wafers session HERE.

CITAY Live Session And Interview Featured On Pandora Internet Radio

You’ll be hard pressed to find a band compared to both Judas Priest and the Allman Brothers in the same breath. But leave it to the duo-lead guitars of Citay to garner such a disparate comparison from the folks at Pandora Internet Radio, speaking of a live session the band recently recorded for TheBayBridged.com’s monthly New, Improved, LIVE series. Listen HERE. A video from the session is below.

“Yes, we are in the middle of recording a new album. It’ll be done in the late summer and out in early 2010 on Dead Oceans. It’s a similar vibe, sort of. Definitely more upbeat, bigger, louder, but still the same themes — soaring guitars and vocals, groovy parts, long-form songs (for the most part) and a generally epic experience,” said Citay bandleader Ezra Feinburg in an accompanying interview HERE.
