Evangelicals Support Sunset Rubdown in Texas

Taking a break from recording their sophomore album, Evangelicals are supporting Sunset Rubdown in Austin and Denton this weekend. Expect plenty of new material from Evangelicals, who have spent most of the winter holed up recording their new album.

Evangelicals Announce Details to the First Great Album of 2008

Finally! We are thrilled to unveil the details for the sophomore album from Evangelicals. Let us introduce you to The Evening Descends.

The Evening Descends… and worlds collide. First you hear the prodigious musical skill: the deft guitar work, the clever pop sensibility, the wild arrangements. But then on other end of the spectrum there is the innocent and youthful charm of a trio of lost boys who seem to have no business making music with such maturity and sophistication. Taken together, you have Evangelicals, a wholly demented ensemble from Norman, OK. Dabbling in glam, slipping in a little funk and soul, drinking the psychedelic Kool-aid, blasting the synths, cranking up the guitars, and wrapping it all up with a dose of pop smarts, The Evening Descends is the first great album of 2008.

The Evening Descends will be released on January 22nd via Dead Oceans.

EVANGELICALS- Fall Tour, Album Sneak Peak?

We recently sent an email to Josh Jones from EVANGELICALS asking for some inside dirt on their recent recording sessions as the band works towards a new LP in 2010. We were hoping for a demo or outtake to share in this press release, to help promote the band’s upcoming November tour dates, where they will be premiering new material live for the very first time. Instead of that detailed email, giving us the scoop on their brand new album, which we were hoping to tease you with, we got something else. The subject of the email said “From the Desk of Josh Jones…” and he attached a photo, and linked to a youtube video, which might or might not contain audio from the forthcoming record soundtracking an acid fried video clip. That’s it. Thanks Josh! From the looks of things, the band is hard at work, creating their black magic in a home studio someplace. More missives and concrete information as we get it. Check out the video.

In more concrete news, Evangelicals are definitely touring this November, joined by Holiday Shores on most dates. The band will also be playing a special hometown show in Norman, OK, celebrating Halloween, where things are sure to get very weird. See the full tour HERE.

EVANGELICALS Featured On The Runways Of New York’s Fashion Week

Brazilian fashion designer Alexandre Herchcovitch has recently featured the music of Dead Oceans’ EVANGELICALS in premiering his collections. The songs “Skeleton Man” and “Paperback Suicide” were used during New York’s Fashion Week and at São Paulo Fashion Week in Brazil. Both tunes appear on the band’s 2008 longplayer The Evening Descends. Check below for a clip from Herchovitch’s New York show as Evangelical’s blast in the background.

Meanwhile, Evangelicals have started a YouTube page, which can be accessed by going HERE.

EVANGELICALS Pre-SXSW Austin Adventures Detailed In Tour Blog

Arriving in Austin days before the official start of SXSW, EVANGELICALS played a total rager at The Mohawk on Monday. And all was well until later that evening, when…well, Evangelicals’ bassist Kyle Davis describes the scene in his tour blog:

“That’s where trouble started. I fell asleep and missed a good portion of it (thankfully) but the dudes decided to head to south Austin to find a hotel room. By the time they arrived there, they were so tired that Todd volunteered to sleep outdoors—it was mild and comfortable weather—with his sleeping back and pillow while the rest of us crashed in the van.

When I awoke, a terrible comotion was afoot. Apparently, the spot Todd handpicked had also been paw-picked by…”
