Watch the New Video for the Luyas’ “Moodslayer”

The Luyas | Moodslayer | Official Video from A Story Told Well on Vimeo.

Premiering earlier today at BOOOOOOOM, the Luyas bring us a brand new video for “Moodslayer” from the album, Too Beautiful to Work. The song delves into the life of a friend dealing with schizophrenia. Director Derrick Belcham created the video to focus “on the dichotomy between the protagonist’s experience of the real and unreal within their psychological construct. They are thrown into a spectacular display of thought forms, settling on archetypes of peace from their youth, but, eventually, they are serenaded back into the unreal where a kind of comfort and control can be maintained.”

Featuring handmade paper animations and a variety of light sequences similar to those used in the Luyas’ live shows, it’s only appropriate the objects in the film are being turned by a record player. The video is a part of a growing artistic collaboration, deemed Schtuff, between the director, Ruby Kato Atwood and Luyas member, Jessie Stein. Enjoy!

The Luyas Visit Daytrotter, Tour with the Dodos

At SXSW this past March, the Luyas visited Big Orange Studios in Austin, and recorded a Daytrotter session. Listen to the band’s fiery take on “Spherical Mattress” from Too Beautiful To Work, along with three others here. Get over to Daytrotter and put this one on repeat, it’s perfect.

The Luyas embark on another long tour in just a few weeks. They’re joining the Dodos once again, this time in North America. We can’t wait to see them onstage together — a little Doyas magic happens when they join forces onstage every night. Check out the full list of shows here. We will have more European dates for the Luyas very soon, stay tuned.

The Luyas Tour with Blonde Redhead & The Dodos

Earlier this spring, the Luyas toured across Europe, including several weeks of dates supporting the Dodos. The bands became fast friends, and this friendship quickly expanded to the Dodos joining the Luyas onstage every night. You can catch a video, shot in Amsterdam, capturing the two bands as they transform the space-age pop of the Luyas “Tiny Head” into a heady kraut-groove right HERE. The bands will join forces once again, this time for a North American tour that starts August 26. This tour comes on the heels of an already busy summer for the Luyas, including dates with Blonde Redhead, and a string of Canadian festival dates at NXNE, Sled Island, Jazz Winnepeg, and Osheaga. Check out the full list of tour dates after the jump.
