RELEASE DAY // Julianna Barwick’s ‘Will’ is Out Worldwide Today

DOC110-1

“To listen to the music of Julianna Barwick is to be swept away; to be transported someplace sacred. It’s the sound of yearning, searching and escape.” – NPR Music

“The consistent loveliness of [Barwick’s] approach remains, and both longtime fans and newcomers should be glad to know that’s also true of…Barwick’s upcoming, self-produced Will.” – Pitchfork

“Writing about just one Julianna Barwick track feels like reviewing only one star in the constellation.” –SPIN

Today marks the release of a truly special record from Julianna Barwick, namely her third full-length, Will. Conceived and self-produced over the past year in a variety of locations, Will is a travelogue of sorts – weaving together swaths of inspiration from a desolate house in upstate New York to the Moog Factory in Asheville, North Carolina to Lisbon, Portugal.

An electric current runs throughout the record, sharp and soft textures colliding to cathartic results. Will is a late afternoon thunderstorm – looming and restorative all at once. Featuring contributions from Thomas Arsenault (Mas Ysa), Dutch cellist Maarten Vos and percussionist, Jamie Ingalls (Chairlift, Tanlines, Beverly), Will is largely a product of ups and downs, a reflection of a life lived somewhere in between transience and standing still.

Barwick will tour in support of Will starting this week in Los Angeles. She’s added a new date at Bowery Ballroom in NYC on June 25th. Mas Ysa will support. Full list of dates below.

ALBUM RELEASE // Strand of Oaks ‘HEAL’ Out Now Worldwide, On Tour Now

The new Strand of Oaks album HEAL is out now.

On previous Strand of Oaks albums, Tim Showalter displayed his knack for moving and dark folk and now on HEAL we see growth and change into an immersive sound with loud, punching guitar riffs and synth-heavy hooks akin to his recent touring show. This is rock in its most raw form, unapologetic and full of deep emotion. Showalter says “I’m inspired by bands that go the distance, to a dangerous place…there’s an uncertainty to ‘HEAL’ that makes me nervous and excited at the same time. It’s sad, but it sounds like a celebration, like I’m crying and laughing and sticking both middle fingers in the air all at the same time.”

Get the new album now via iTunes, Amazon, SC Distribution, and your local record store.

Critics praise the new album:

“Folk songwriter Strand Of Oaks heals on rock ‘n’ roll masterpiece”

A.V. CLUB | A

“overwhelmingly epic and unashamedly ambitious”

UNCUT | ★★★★

“Epic…it’s easy to hear how it might serve as curative to a new generation of songwriters.”

NPR

“Glorious…matches Springsteen’s phrasing with the Replacements’ wounded alt-rock.”
