WATCH // White Hinterland Shares New “Baby” Video, On Tour Now With S. Carey

Today VEVO premiered the new cinematic video for title track “Baby” off the new White Hinterland album. Directed by Anna Rose Holmerthe video was shot in Casey’s hometown in southeastern Massachusetts. Watch the video above or here on Casey’s YouTube channel.

Casey writes, “I was drawn to Anna’s treatment because she puts a lot of heart into her work, and ‘Baby’ feels like the most raw and delicate of all the songs on the album … whatever we did had to be especially personal. I wanted us to shoot it in my hometown because I think it’s beautiful here. It feels like a visual love letter to the Scituate that I grew up in.”

Get the new album Baby via iTunes, SC Distribution, Amazon, and your local record store.

WATCH // Strand of Oaks Shares New “Goshen ’97″ Video Dir. By Rick Alverson, New Album ‘HEAL’ Out June 24th

Strand of Oaks shared the first single “Goshen ’97″ from upcoming album HEAL at the beginning of the month with praise from Stereogum calling it a “rocket-fueled nostalgia trip” and Pitchfork writing the song was “raw and reckless”. Today THE FADER premiered a new video for the track by director Rick Alverson [director of The Comedy] which puts Tim Showalter of Strand of Oaks in the main role. Watch the new video above, on THE FADER‘s website, or on our YouTube channel here.

On the video and director Alverson, Tim writes:

“It had been a dream of mine to work with Rick Alverson…[he] is a master of blending tragedy, humor, and catharsis, and that’s exactly what the song is about. It doesn’t celebrate the huge victories in life or mourn the heaviest memories. It’s about the moments between the ups and downs, where I believe we spend most of our lives. The days that aren’t shitty or particularly great, when you realize you’re one day farther from being young and you’re only getting older. Sometimes things so simple can be the most tragic.”

See Tim with a full band celebrating the new album’s release on June 26th at the Mercury Lounge in NYC. Get tickets here.

ALBUM RELEASE // White Hinterland ‘Baby’ Out Now, Tour With S. Carey Starts This Week, European Dates In May

It has been four years since Kairos came out in 2010, and now Casey Dienel aka White Hinterland‘s newest album Baby is out now worldwide.

Recorded in a self-built studio inside her old family home in Scituate, MA, Casey removes herself from the sprawling atmospheric production of Kairos and hones her sound with focused, confident production and a present narrative. Baby is about facing your fears and making the most out of your situation, being bold and pushing forward past opposition. On the new record Casey says “the themes of this record to me are personal agency, strength, growth, determination…and to get those things is usually fucking terrifying and comes with casualties and loss.” Joining Casey on the new record includes acclaimed artists Sean Carey (Bon Iver, S. Carey), Neal Morgan (Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan), and Cole Kamen-Green (Beyoncé).

Critics praise the new album:

“Dienel’s considerable vocal skills hold it all together, [her] vocal acrobatics stay riveting”

- Rolling Stone

“bask in the irrepressible Venusian energy of one of the finest female artists in modern pop music”

- musicOMH

WATCH // Mark McGuire Shares New “The Human Condition (Song For My Father)” Video Via Noisey, Plays SXSW Next Week

Today Noisey premiered Mark McGuire‘s video for “The Human Condition (Song For My Father)”.

Here’s Mark on the story behind the song and video:
“[it's] about looking at the aspects of yourself that are hard to accept, but cannot be ignored. It’s about the heartbreak and neuroses that lie underneath the rug of all human relationships, and the attempt to resolve and overcome these issues, striving toward personal harmony.

“The song is dedicated to my father, who is an undeniable influence on my chemical makeup, and a huge influence on this album. It contains audio samples of a “celebrity roast” his family held in his honor in 1989. First he is caught off-guard and begins to prepare himself to be roasted, stating “I gotta get that plastic smile on…”

“Like many of our family events of that time, the roast was filmed by my uncle. For the music video I edited together some of the footage from that night; beginning with his entrance and general shock, all the way through dinner and various roasters, including a slideshow done that night by my grandfather, John Ryan McGuire. I also infused images of my family from my album Living with Yourself, a few clips I’ve filmed in the past couple of years, and some stock images of deep space, to further illustrate the cosmic properties of the family unit, and the inner personal temple.”

Mark’s new album Along The Way is out now worldwide. See him perform at SXSW next week with all dates and times here.

On Along The Way, McGuire writes in the liner notes,
“This story is an odyssey through the vast, unknown regions of the mind…the endless unfolding of psychological landscapes, leading to perpetual discoveries and expansions, in a genuinely emergent and infinite world of worlds.” Further he writes “[the new album] is not a critique, it is not instructional, nor is it a proclamation that I believe I have gone through this journey and succeeded, not by a long shot. It is, however, a journey that I truly believe is offered to every man and woman who has ever lived, through the lightness that breathes through your heart when you feel the true touch of life, and the light of love.”
