WATCH // Bleached Tear Through “Wednesday Night Melody” on ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’

For the better part of this year, Bleached have been road warriors (hitting countless cities) in support of their sophomore album, Welcome The Worms. Last week, the band announced a fall, co-headlining tour with Beach Slang, and last night, they brought their lead radio single, “Wednesday Night Melody”, to Late Night with Seth Meyers. Aptly described by NPR Music,

“’Wednesday Night Melody’ perfectly captures the spirit of young adulthood. . . Bleached’s furious and fun sound, mixed with a slacker vibe, invites you to enjoy your youthful worries while they last.”

Passionately amped to crush it on national TV (on a Wednesday night, no less!), the ladies put on a killer presentation, further proving why radio stations across the country are keeping Bleached on heavy rotation. Catch Bleached on the road in the months to come! All tour dates are below, including a slew of newly added dates.

Bonus! Jessie Clavin recently spoke with Deli Magazine about the pedals she uses, hop on over to check it out!

WATCH // Bleached Share Video For New Single “Wednesday Night Melody”

“’Wednesday Night Melody’ perfectly captures the spirit of young adulthood, a time when you’re young and free and your whole life is ahead of you, but you’re often broke and consumed by angst. Bleached’s furious and fun sound, mixed with a slacker vibe, invites you to enjoy your youthful worries while they last.” — NPR Music’s “All Songs Considered”

“Like the band itself, the video tackles objectively unpleasant subject matter with cheeky panache, transforming it into a scuzzed-out garage pop ride.” — Noisey on “Wednesday Night Melody” video

“a sneering soundtrack to a souring relationship and a gentle reminder to keep on keepin’ on regardless.”

The FADER

“If lead single ‘Keep On Keepin’ On’ is any indication, the L.A. rockers have found a way to further indulge their punk desires with breezy pop vibes…the track chugs forward with driving, incessant guitar and a dangerous bass line that creeps in the background. — Consequence of Sound

Bleached have unveiled the video for their new single, “Wednesday Night Melody,” from their forthcoming album, Welcome The Worms, out April 1st on Dead Oceans. The video depicts Bleached band members, Jessie Clavin and Micayla Grace, coming home to find their lead singer, Jennifer Clavin, dead. But the band has an important gig that night at renowned L.A. rock club, The Smell, and the show must go on!

“We were so stoked we got to do this video with [director] Gil Kenan,” said Jennifer. “We’ve known each other for years from the Smell scene in L.A. I didn’t realize how well his concept for this video flowed with the lyrics until after we finished filming. The lyrics started off as a letter to myself and range from depicting the indulgence of vices to escape, sad reflection of the past, and into the acceptance of those feelings as a part of life and feeling hopeful for the future. So the fact that I play dead during this whole video was such an abstract take on it that it felt perfect.”

Upon the announcement of Welcome The Worms, Bleached is being recognized as a no-frills, not-to-be-missed rock band. Coming out of a particularly trying time in life, sisters Jessie and Jennifer dove head-first into music, siting unhealthy romantic endeavors, eviction and futile drunken nights as the inspiration behind their ambitious sophomore album. The band will be heading to SXSW and will then embark on their extensive North American tour in support of the record (all dates below).

WATCH // Bleached Share Video For “Keep On Keepin’ On,” Album Release Date For ‘Welcome The Worms’

April 1st sees the release of Welcome The Worms, the ambitious new rock album by Los Angeles-based Bleached. While keeping the band’s origin of cheeky, California-punk in the forefront, Welcome The Worms is a smarter, heavier, emotionally deeper Bleached.

Sisters Jennifer (vocals, guitar) and Jessie Clavin (guitar, bass) knew things were going to be different for their sophomore album – not only had they managed to charm world-renowned producer and engineer Joe Chiccarelli (Morrissey, The Strokes, Elton John) and co-producer Carlos de la Garza (Paramore, YACHT) to join them and their bassist Micayla Grace in the studio, but Jen and Jessie had been crawling out of their own personal dramas. Jessie was evicted from her house and scrambling, while Jen ended a torrid, unhealthy romance. While emotionally spinning, she dove head first into music.

“I was a loose canon,” the commanding front woman says. “I was losing serious control of my personal and creative life. I was falling apart, trying to escape. I felt like Bleached was the only thing I actually cared about.”

Throughout the record, Bleached paints a frivolous picture of Los Angeles: the life of eye-rolling caused by dating men in bands, dirty Sunset Boulevard and futile drunken nights in a starstruck hole that made everyone from Charles Manson to Darby Crash to Marilyn Monroe stare up at the Hollywood sign for direction. Although a typical theme of ruined romance floats through the album, the real power is in Jen figuring out herself through lyrics so straight, identifiable and honest, a first for the girl who safely hid behind a cheeky misdemeanor.

“We don’t want perfection because it’s boring,” Jen declares. “We want to make music that’s as real as life.”

Watch the Lana Kim-directed video for debut single, “Keep On Keepin’ On,” which presents the essence of Welcome The Worms and Bleached’s newfound pop refinement. As described by The FADER, it’s “a sneering soundtrack to a souring relationship and a gentle reminder to keep on keepin’ on regardless.”

Bleached’s Welcome The Worms is available for pre-order now through Dead Oceans. It includes limited edition black/cream split colored vinyl, an original Bleached coloring book and Bleached patch. Bleached will tour as a four-piece all over North America this spring.
