ALBUM RELEASE // Califone’s ‘Stitches’ Out Today, Touring Through October

After playing a fantastic Labor Day in-store at Nashville‘s iconic record store Grimey’s yesterday, Califone‘s new album, Stitches, is finally out today in stores and online!

Stitches is the band’s 7th album, a followup to 2009’s All My Friends Are Funeral Singers, and the band’s first completely made outside Chicago. Califone’s Tim Rutili explains that the writing and recording began in Southern California and then finished the album in Arizona and Texas saying “those dry landscapes and beaches and hills and shopping malls all made it into the music”. Enchanting, complex, and emotionally driven songs will satisfy diehard fans while bringing new fans to Califone’s established sound and storied history.

You can get Stitches on iTunes, Amazon, your local record store, and from SC Distribution.

WATCH // Califone Debut Interactive Video for “Stitches” on Tumblr, Start Living Room Tour August 21st

In a unique approach to a music video, Califone worked with filmmaker Braden King and programmer Jeff Garneau using Tumblr to debut a beautiful and haunting interactive video of the new album’s title track “Stitches”. Garneau programmed the video to randomly pull images and animated GIFs from a previously selected set of Tumblr sites to provide a truly distinctive experience every time the viewer watches the video. Head over to Califone’s Tumblr HERE to find and experience the hidden video that Nate Auerbach, Tumblr’s Music Evangelist, calls, “deeper than an album jacket and more intense than a music video, because it is living and breathing.”

RELEASE // Loftus ‘Loftus’ Gets Reissued With Vinyl Pressing On Jealous Butcher Records

On July 9th a mostly unheard gem in the early experimental 1990’s indie-rock world will be reissued with a first time pressing on vinyl. Before Califone, band members Tim Rutili and Ben Massarela, were in a group called Red Red Meat which joined members of Rex and Bundy K. Brown to form Loftus. The group recorded the self-titled album at Ben’s truck stop, a still functioning truck weight stop. About the rather odd recording process, Tim said, “Bundy put all our names into a hat; he’d pick three names and we’d improvise.” Eventually Bundy would turn the lights back on and they would stop, later building those sessions into full songs.

This very special reissue of the original CD is a vinyl release (pictured above) which is limited to 521 number copies on either red or clear vinyl and can be pre-order HERE prior to the July 9th release date.
