EP ANNOUNCE // Mark McGuire ‘Noctilucence’ EP Out 11/11 On Dead Oceans, Hear Title Track Now

“‘The term “noctilucence” comes from “noctilucent clouds”, the name given to clouds which, for some reason, emit a brilliant vibrance at night. On this recording we find our subject diving into the electric waters of the night sky, in long drives across the vast deserts of America. It’s a recording about the discovery and understanding of the shadow, entrance to the realm not controlled by the light of day, or the logic of reason. It’s about confronting nocturnal terrors and all of those things that go bump in the night…“Noctilucence” is a deep stare into the infinite eye of the shimmering night sky of the future, and all it holds in its gaze.” – Mark McGuire, 2014

Announced earlier today via Pitchfork, prolific Dead Oceans artist Mark McGuire will release Noctilucence, on November 11. The followup to the critically acclaimed Along The Way was written over the past two years between Los Angeles and McGuire’s hometown of Cleveland, OH. Keep an ear out for standout track “Noctilucence”, the sprawling and expansive 12 minute centerpiece of the EP that very well might be the most ambitious track McGuire has ever released. WATCH // Bishop Allen “Why I Had To Go” Via Billboard Premiere, Tour Dates Start 8/16

Two weeks out from the release of Lights Out, Bishop Allen is back with a video for “Why I Had to Go” the second single off the new album via Billboard premiere. The video directors Chad Smith and Bishop Allen’s Justin Rice chose hula-hooping not only because the song is about (to quote the lyrics), “the endless repetition of an action,” but also because it gave people something mesmerizing and all-consuming to focus on, which meant they weren’t self-conscious in front of the camera.  The goal was to capture natural expressions of innate personality, and to do it in slow motion. Watch the entrancing video above or here on YouTube / Vevo.

Pre-order the new album Lights Out via SC Distribution for the deluxe bundle which includes limited-edition white vinyl, a CD, downloads, + a hand-screened glow-in-the-dark poster. You can also get the album on iTunes, Amazon, or at your local record store.

The band plays Kingston on the 16th and Boston on the 20th before returning to Brooklyn for their record release show at Glasslands on August 21st to start off the first of many tour dates supporting the new album. More dates will be announced soon.
