New Nurses MP3, Pre-Order w/Instant Download

Nurses share a new track today from their highly anticipated album, Dracula. The song, “Trying to Reach You” premiered this morning on Pitchfork’s Forkcast. Gentle piano over a vibey bass line complements shuffling and varied percussion that opens into a forest of instruments and layered vocals in a demonstration of what Pitchfork calls Nurses’ “avant-pop” sound. You can listen to the track here.

Dracula is also available for the first time TODAY for pre-order from SC Distribution. Each pre-order comes with an instant download of the full album. Vinyl and CD bundles are available and the instant download will include Dark Jordan Mixtape, a digital-only 9 track EP from the band, comprised of out-takes, home recordings and sound experiments.

The band will also do three in-store performances in their hometown of Portland on US release day. On Tuesday, September 20th Nurses will start at Jackpot Records at 4:30pm, then head to Everyday Music at 5:30pm and finish at Music Millennium at 7pm. The official album release show will follow on September 22nd at Holocene. Full tour dates are listed below.

Nurses Announce Fall Tour with Dominant Legs

Following the September 20th (September 19 in the UK) release of Dracula, Nurses embark on a North American tour joined by fellow pop innovators Dominant Legs. September 22, Nurses hold their official album release show at Holocene in their hometown of Portland, OR. We don’t know what the Nurses have in store for Portland, but their hometown shows are memorable, costumed, special-guest-laden, multimedia affairs that do not disappoint.

On Dracula, Nurses tap into the physicality of rhythm and how it speaks to the body itself, and this translates in their live performances. Nurses’ three members blend hypnotic sounds, shifting from instrument to instrument effortlessly, creating the feel of three producers onstage. Their performances are immersive, visceral experiences, and the dubby groove of Dracula is perfectly conducive to this performance approach. With the Girls-affiliated Dominant Legs joining them on tour in support of their upcoming album Invitation (out September 27th), this tour features two of fall’s pop benders on one stage every night. Check out the full tour dates after the jump, and if you haven’t already heard the first track from Dracula click below and start sweating to “Fever Dreams.”

Nurses Announce New Album “Dracula,” Premiere MP3

Nurses

Nurses have announced the release of their next full-length, Dracula, on Dead Oceans. The album will be released in the US on September 20 and in the UK on September 19. The new disc features the band’s unmistakable elastic melodies, heady pop hooks and unconventional knack for catchy songwriting. With its deep grooves, funky bass lines and focus on rhythm, Dracula feels like the older brother to 2009′s Apple’s Acre. The album is handcrafted with weird and wonderful noises from the band members Aaron Chapman, James Mitchell & John Bowers, who eschewed typical instrumental roles and instead collaborated as producers, each contributing his own ideas and sounds to form songs.

You can hear the album opener “Fever Dreams” now right here. Click through for tracklisting and album art for Dracula.
