After releasing their self-titled debut full-length and a head-turning run at CMJ in 2011 (not to mention two par-excellent US tours), Gauntlet Hair officially enters the ring for 2012 with a new 7″ and a first-ever European tour. February will find the boys on a whirlwind tour across the Atlantic, tearing through France, the UK, Holland and Belgium. These will be not-to-be-missed performances. See a full listing of those dates HERE.

The My Christ 7″ (Release Date 1/24) features front-and-center one of the high water marks from the band’s debut. In an era rife with reverb-drenched indie music, Gauntlet Hair use the effect in a wholly different way than their peers. Instead of applying reverb as a gauze, Gauntlet Hair uses its curvature and decay to form and push their melodies, to further shape the songs. Andy R.’s guitar strikes on “My Christ” leave these twinkling chemtrails behind them just long enough for Craig Nice’s huge-ass snare cracks to bust through them. The song is unrelenting in the way that Jane’s Addiction or INXS could be. The heretofore unreleased in physical form double B-Sides are great too. “Need To Retire” is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it pop torpedo with a grinning, supermarket singsongy “oooh oooh oooh” chorus. And “Minimal Armageddon” is almost like a peek behind Gauntlet Hair’s creative curtain. It paints an unsettling, barren landscape — a lone menacing guitar egging on the white, metallic explosions light up the horizon.
