WATCH // Califone Shares “Magdalene” Animated Video, Living Room Tour Starts April 20th

Califone released their newest record, Stitches, last year and we have already seen multiple cinematic videos for tracks “Frosted Tips”, “Bells Break Arms”, “We are a Payphone”, and “Movie Music Kills a Kiss”. Today, Califone shares a new stop-motion video for ““Magdalene” directed and animated by Jessie Stein (of The Luyas) and Amanda Bonaiuto.

Bonaiuto describes the setting for “Magdalene”:

“There is a woman who lives on a lake. She is always there in her boat where she stares up, and only up at the stars. The stars are her sole friends and her only fascination. She has never noticed the merman who lives in the lake and probably never will. A watery scene filled with empty wine bottles and colorful hair gives us a view of their world”

If you haven’t picked it up already, Stitches is available now on iTunes, Amazon, at your local record store, and from SC Distribution.

Califone continues their tour with living room shows starting April 20th in Hadley, Massachusetts.

The Luyas Announce New Album – “Animator,” First Single Available for Download

What a great day to be a Luyas fan! The group announces the follow-up album to 2011’s Too Beautiful To Work. Titled Animator, the new record was created through a particularly difficult time following the sudden death of a close friend. Through both the introspection caused after losing someone and the act of joining together for the sole purpose of music, Animator – an album that is “intuitive, seductive, moody and textural,” came to be. Animator is out on Dead Oceans October 16, but you can listen to the first single, “Fifty Fifty,” below. Premiering earlier this afternoon at Pitchfork, the song is up for 1,000 free downloads – after it will continue to be available for streaming!

There’s something almost supernatural to the feel of the record. “Animator is supposed to be some weird resuscitation. The animator’s job is to create the semblance of movement in things that cannot move themselves. The musician’s is to make us feel like something is happening with a sound,” explains singer and multi-instrumentalist Jessie Stein.
