Wait No More: Bill Fay – ‘Life Is People’ Out Now

Today is an incredibly special day here at Dead Oceans. Bill Fay’s Life Is People is officially released to the world. We could not be prouder to support “the strange and wonderful return of cult hero Bill Fay” as Spin recently wrote. As we’ve mentioned before, Life Is People is the first proper studio release Fay has put out in over forty years. Produced by Joshua Henry and Guy Massey, the record features musicians Matt Deighton, Tim Weller and Mikey Rowe. Long-time fan and supporter Jeff Tweedy also sings with Bill on “This World.”

“This album had a life of it’s own. It just fell into place. It was at peace with itself. I was walking into the unknown, but the people who helped me make it were really nice, and great players. It was exactly right.” Bill Fay

Physical copies are available at SC Distribution, as well as your local record store. You can purchase the record by signing up for Dead Oceans Sounds, our new digital subscription service at DRIPFM or at iTunes and receive the bonus track “Home Was the Place.” Life Is People is currently streaming for a limited time at Paste. Enjoy it HERE.

Love for Life Is People

“Breathtakingly beautiful…full of a quiet awe and wonder….”NPR

“Life Is People is proof enough that Fay has always stood tall; we just may have been too short to notice him. It seems like time has finally caught up with Fay, or rather, that time is ready to start regretting its negligence. He’s in our sight lines now, and hopefully he’ll stay there a while longer.”Consequence of Sound

“Bill Fay’s first album in 41 years is astonishing.”MOJO 5 stars, Album of the Month

“Beautiful, patient and poignant, Life Is People is an expert singer-songwriter album…the work of a lifetime…”Pitchfork

The Luyas Announce New Album – “Animator,” First Single Available for Download

What a great day to be a Luyas fan! The group announces the follow-up album to 2011′s Too Beautiful To Work. Titled Animator, the new record was created through a particularly difficult time following the sudden death of a close friend. Through both the introspection caused after losing someone and the act of joining together for the sole purpose of music, Animator – an album that is “intuitive, seductive, moody and textural,” came to be. Animator is out on Dead Oceans October 16, but you can listen to the first single, “Fifty Fifty,” below. Premiering earlier this afternoon at Pitchfork, the song is up for 1,000 free downloads – after it will continue to be available for streaming!

There’s something almost supernatural to the feel of the record. “Animator is supposed to be some weird resuscitation. The animator’s job is to create the semblance of movement in things that cannot move themselves. The musician’s is to make us feel like something is happening with a sound,” explains singer and multi-instrumentalist Jessie Stein.

LSTN: The Tallest Man On Earth Featured on NPR’s Morning Edition

If you haven’t given it a listen already, head over to NPR and check out Monday’s Morning Edition. The show features The Tallest Man On Earth just in time for the release of his new album, There’s No Leaving Now, out officially tomorrow.

“Matsson says he’s dealt with stress and anxiety in his music, and his older songs often return to the theme of running away. But on his new record, he brings a fresh outlook: a feeling of wanting to confront, not run. His recent marriage seems to have made him stronger.” Check out The Tallest Man On Earth: Tired of Running HERE.

You can still listen to the new album at NPR’s First Listen. The stream will not last much longer, so check it out while you can.

Get your copy of There’s No Leaving Now at SC Distribution. Deluxe bundles featuring an exclusive 7″ still available.

The band is currently on tour with Doldrums and Blouse! Full list of dates HERE. For all you Austin folks, Brooklyn Vegan is currently giving away a pair of tickets to see them live at The Parish. Details HERE.

Love for I Love You, It’s Cool

“For better or worse, I Love You begins and ends with its irrepressible and impossible to ignore lead single, “Reflection of You.” It’s Bear in Heaven’s best song to date, a ever-climbing sing-along with the most ass-shaking beat the band have thrown down yet.” Prefix

“Yet the ultimate kiss-off is delivered in Philpot’s deceptively sinister intonation, “I know what it is/It’s a phase/You just don’t know.” The power lies in the pregnant pause between “phase” and “you,” imbuing the line with devastation and regret. It’s subtle moments like these that illustrate just how far Bear in Heaven have progressed as songwriters, and I Love You, It’s Cool is an album rife with them.” Under the Radar
