Wait No More: Bill Fay – ‘Life Is People’ Out Now

Today is an incredibly special day here at Dead Oceans. Bill Fay’s Life Is People is officially released to the world. We could not be prouder to support “the strange and wonderful return of cult hero Bill Fay” as Spin recently wrote. As we’ve mentioned before, Life Is People is the first proper studio release Fay has put out in over forty years. Produced by Joshua Henry and Guy Massey, the record features musicians Matt Deighton, Tim Weller and Mikey Rowe. Long-time fan and supporter Jeff Tweedy also sings with Bill on “This World.”

“This album had a life of it’s own. It just fell into place. It was at peace with itself. I was walking into the unknown, but the people who helped me make it were really nice, and great players. It was exactly right.” Bill Fay

Physical copies are available at SC Distribution, as well as your local record store. You can purchase the record by signing up for Dead Oceans Sounds, our new digital subscription service at DRIPFM or at iTunes and receive the bonus track “Home Was the Place.” Life Is People is currently streaming for a limited time at Paste. Enjoy it HERE.

Love for Life Is People

“Breathtakingly beautiful…full of a quiet awe and wonder….”NPR

“Life Is People is proof enough that Fay has always stood tall; we just may have been too short to notice him. It seems like time has finally caught up with Fay, or rather, that time is ready to start regretting its negligence. He’s in our sight lines now, and hopefully he’ll stay there a while longer.”Consequence of Sound

“Bill Fay’s first album in 41 years is astonishing.”MOJO 5 stars, Album of the Month

“Beautiful, patient and poignant, Life Is People is an expert singer-songwriter album…the work of a lifetime…”Pitchfork

Listen to Bill Fay: A Cult Figure Returns, Skeptical But Optimistic.

“When I was on holidays with my dad as a kid, we’d sit in seaside cafes and he’d watch people walking by. … He was astonished at it and he would say, ‘Life is people.’ That was quite emotional for me, to sort of have him on board so to speak on his own view on life.” -Bill Fay

LSTN: Bear In Heaven Live on NPR’s World Cafe

NPR’s World Cafe brings you a brand new live session from Bear In Heaven. The guys just wrapped up a couple of months of solid touring, but they still have a few dates in the works, as well as a big performance at Lollapalooza. See all shows HERE.

LSTN: Bill Fay Featured On NPR’s All Songs Considered

The long wait for new music from English singer-songwriter Bill Fay is finally over! Today, NPR’s All Songs Considered premieres Bill Fay’s new single, “Never Ending Happening” off his forthcoming album, Life Is People, out on August 21. On their Summer Music Preview, Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton feature some of summer’s most anticipated releases. Alongside Bill Fay are songs from Cat Power, Grizzly Bear, Avett Brothers, and Jeff the Brotherhood. Listen to the show HERE.

In addition to the All Songs Considered inclusion, Robin Hilton continues the Fay coverage in Old Music Tuesday: Bill Fay’s ‘Be Not So Fearful.’ Hilton writes, “The title of his new record says a lot about Fay’s work. His songs are often existential, full of a quiet awe and wonder. He’s a plainspoken lyricist who seeks to make sense of an often baffling world, finding eternal truths — love, compassion, humility — on both a cosmic and personal scale. It’s so good to hear him back in fine form.” Head over to the All Songs Considered Blog to read the post.

Release Day: The Tallest Man On Earth’s “There’s No Leaving Now” Out Today!

Happy release day to The Tallest Man On Earth! Today Kristian releases his third lp, There’s No Leaving Now! It’s available in-stores and online. Order your copy from iTunes or SC Distribution now! You can also stream the album in full at Spotify.

“These 10 songs, like those before them, dazzle and shimmy and sulk, as Matsson continues to conjure images of a young Dylan projecting his voice through a megaphone.” – NPR

“The piano-driven title track is a continuation of something Matsson hinted at on his last full-length (The Wild Hunt); it’s a subtle departure, an assertion that he won’t be creatively contained.” – Creative Loafing
