LSTN // Night Beds Live on World Cafe

Good Morning! Good Morning! If you missed it before, here’s your chance to listen to Night Beds perform live on World Cafe. In addition to their interview with the ever-trusty David Dye, the band played a number of songs from their Dead Oceans debut Country Sleep. The list includes “Faithful Heights,” “Ramona,” “Even If We Try” and “Head For The Hills.” There is also an exclusive web version of “22.” Stream at NPR.

“The lyrics may have come from Nashville, but the record’s open, dusty sound is pure Colorado. Yellen brings his amazing, wide-ranging voice to this installment of World Cafe, playing songs from Country Sleep as well as a track that didn’t make the album.”David Dye / World Cafe

Night Beds are currently on tour, playing many a European venue. You can see all of the upcoming tour dates and ticket links HERE.

Night Beds Announce Debut Album ‘Country Sleep,’ New Music Video Premieres Today at NPR

Night Beds announce the release of debut record, Country Sleep. The ten-track album represents a period of uncertainty and the escape Winston Yellen found in writing each song, done in an environment where personal limits were often tested. Where days blurred into nights and mornings signified a certain safety, Winston fought to find some sanity, some equal ground to come to terms with the months prior to his arrival in Nashville and occupancy of the late Johnny Cash and June Carter’s home. Country Sleep is set for release on February 5, 2013.

Premiering this morning at NPR’s All Songs Considered, it is the brand new video for Night Bed’s gorgeous single “Even If We Try.” Called “a languid gem of a song paired with very disturbing video” by Bob Boilen, the video takes the viewer on a dark and incredibly uncomfortable journey as the main character, played by Winston, quickly falls apart at a party. Director Rick Alverson chose to pair the beautiful, heartbreaking song with something equally moving, although in a much different way. Watch “Even If We Try” above.

Wait No More: Bill Fay – ‘Life Is People’ Out Now

Today is an incredibly special day here at Dead Oceans. Bill Fay’s Life Is People is officially released to the world. We could not be prouder to support “the strange and wonderful return of cult hero Bill Fay” as Spin recently wrote. As we’ve mentioned before, Life Is People is the first proper studio release Fay has put out in over forty years. Produced by Joshua Henry and Guy Massey, the record features musicians Matt Deighton, Tim Weller and Mikey Rowe. Long-time fan and supporter Jeff Tweedy also sings with Bill on “This World.”

“This album had a life of it’s own. It just fell into place. It was at peace with itself. I was walking into the unknown, but the people who helped me make it were really nice, and great players. It was exactly right.” Bill Fay

Physical copies are available at SC Distribution, as well as your local record store. You can purchase the record by signing up for Dead Oceans Sounds, our new digital subscription service at DRIPFM or at iTunes and receive the bonus track “Home Was the Place.” Life Is People is currently streaming for a limited time at Paste. Enjoy it HERE.

Love for Life Is People

“Breathtakingly beautiful…full of a quiet awe and wonder….”NPR

“Life Is People is proof enough that Fay has always stood tall; we just may have been too short to notice him. It seems like time has finally caught up with Fay, or rather, that time is ready to start regretting its negligence. He’s in our sight lines now, and hopefully he’ll stay there a while longer.”Consequence of Sound

“Bill Fay’s first album in 41 years is astonishing.”MOJO 5 stars, Album of the Month

“Beautiful, patient and poignant, Life Is People is an expert singer-songwriter album…the work of a lifetime…”Pitchfork
