We are proud to announce the release of The Clearing, the latest album from Bowerbirds! Set to drop March 6, the album’s release will be followed by a national tour. Take a listen to the first track, “Tuck the Darkness In,” over at Pitchfork and make sure to catch Bowerbirds on tour this spring!
Watch A$AP Rocky & his crew rap over a beat sampled from Nurses’ “You Lookin’ Twice” in a laser tag video arcade called Funtopia. What more could you possibly want? It’s not every day you get a Ma$e shout out.
Wild Palms” b/w “Symphony in White, No. 2 is the first taste of new material from Sun Airway since the release of their acclaimed debut, Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier. Following tours with Bear in Heaven, Cults, Small Black, Lower Dens and more, the band went back into the studio and emerged with this stunning new single. First performed live at a special engagement this past Friday at the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia,”Wild Palms” is now offered for download at Pitchfork.com.
On this 7″ the band’s modern sounds glance backwards, with faint 80s pop melodies sneaking into the band’s repertoire. Although the sounds are lush, subtle and carefully crafted, Sun Airway once again proves the songwriting comes first, writing instantly classic pop tunes on their new single.
This 7″ single will be available physically on July 19th, 2011 but is now available at all digital retailers. (iTunes, Amazon, Emusic)
Last year Dead Oceans first discovered the mysterious-sounding Denver-based duo, Gauntlet Hair. Their twisted, blown-out pop songs were surfacing on blogs, and we were instantly spellbound.
Gauntlet Hair went on to release a pair of instantly out of print and collectible 7” singles on Forest Family Recs. and Mexican Summer. Dead Oceans signed the band, and they have been hard at work on a debut full-length album.
Gauntlet Hair is taking a break from the recording studio for a tour of North America with the Dodos. The band has additional appearances slated for the NXNE and Hopscotch Music Festivals. For the live show, the band will be performing as a quartet, adding a second guitar and bass to the line-up.
As the latest addition to the Dead Oceans/Jagjaguwar/Secretly Canadian family, I’ve been getting wedgies, noogies and wet willies like no other these past few months. I’ve had a lot of noob/rookie/freshman moments too. Here are my top 5 favorite.
Not too long after I was first hired, the Bloomington crew (And Phil from Austin) came up for Pitchfork Music Festival. It wasn’t that different from this post. I tried to stalk Raekwon to no avail and had too much free beer. Free beer will never get old!
