The Luyas Visit Daytrotter, Tour with the Dodos

At SXSW this past March, the Luyas visited Big Orange Studios in Austin, and recorded a Daytrotter session. Listen to the band’s fiery take on “Spherical Mattress” from Too Beautiful To Work, along with three others here. Get over to Daytrotter and put this one on repeat, it’s perfect.

The Luyas embark on another long tour in just a few weeks. They’re joining the Dodos once again, this time in North America. We can’t wait to see them onstage together — a little Doyas magic happens when they join forces onstage every night. Check out the full list of shows here. We will have more European dates for the Luyas very soon, stay tuned.

Gauntlet Hair Signs To Dead Oceans, On Tour w/ Dodos

Last year Dead Oceans first discovered the mysterious-sounding Denver-based duo, Gauntlet Hair. Their twisted, blown-out pop songs were surfacing on blogs, and we were instantly spellbound.

Gauntlet Hair went on to release a pair of instantly out of print and collectible 7” singles on Forest Family Recs. and Mexican Summer. Dead Oceans signed the band, and they have been hard at work on a debut full-length album.

Gauntlet Hair is taking a break from the recording studio for a tour of North America with the Dodos. The band has additional appearances slated for the NXNE and Hopscotch Music Festivals. For the live show, the band will be performing as a quartet, adding a second guitar and bass to the line-up.

The Luyas Go 3-D in France

The Luyas just started a month long European tour, where they’ll be headlining select shows, and supporting The Dodos for several weeks. Watch the Luyas in 3-D from their show in Bordeaux. Is this what happens when you drink all that delicious French wine? Where are my 3-D glasses? If you speak French, check out this wonderful review of the Luyas show in Paris, courtesy of Les Inrockuptibles. The touring never ends with the Luyas, they just added a run of dates with Blonde Redhead in California. Check out the full list of dates here.

Picture 57
Last Tuesday, we unleashed The Luyas new album Too Beautiful To Work to glowing reviews worldwide. The band has now packed their suitcases and are embarking on a tour that takes them across North America and Europe. The gear is loaded up in the van, and they will be leaving Montreal tonight to meet up with Ra Ra Riot for their first show, in Charlottesville, VA. Along the way, they will be visiting SXSW in Austin (more dates coming soon), supporting Ra Ra Riot, Liam Finn and The Dodos, and headlining their own shows. With stops in most of the western world confirmed, do not miss a chance to see the Luyas on their epic journey. Click here for the full rundown of tour dates.

The Luyas Release New Live Video by Vincent Moon and Derrick Belcham. Tour with the Dodos, Liam Finn, and Ra Ra Riot

Last October, The Luyas put together a multi-media experience at Pop Montreal. They transformed the space at Red Bird studios using lighting and sculpture into an entirely new psychedelic world to house their musical performance. Takeaway Show’s Vincent Moon and A Story Told Well’s Derrick Belcham captured the performance in the above video titled “Everything Is Outta Sight.” It is a visual and aural spectacle, a truly special moment preserved in this stunning video.

Following tour dates with Ra Ra Riot that lead to South by Southwest, the Luyas will meet up with Liam Finn on a tour that will take them across North America. After barely enough time to catch their breath, the Luyas leave for a month in Europe, including several weeks touring with the Dodos. Check out full tour dates after the jump.
