Night Beds took over Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Friday and we could not be prouder of their performance. Playing a fantastic (so says Jimmy) rendition of Country Sleep standout track “Ramona,” Winston and the band seemed very much at ease on the big stage. Watch the clip above (move to the 42 minute mark).
You can see Night Beds on tour now! They are playing St. Louis’s Off Broadway tonight with lots of shows to follow. Find all their dates HERE.
Winston Yellen and his brother, Abe, returned to their hometown at the end of last year to perform a few songs for Fuel/Friends. The beautiful session includes a heartbreaking cover of Damien Jurado’s “Everything Trying,” plus two originals off Night Beds’ Country Sleep, released just yesterday. Watch all three songs above!
Night Beds are wasting no time in conquering the road and world of touring. Winston and the crew will perform on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (win tickets) this Friday, February 8. They also stopped by the NPR offices today for their first Tiny Desk concert. More details on that performance to come, but check out these photos – #1 & #2 – until you can watch the real thing.
Lastly, Winston talked to The Tennessean’s Kevin Walters on the Music City Podcast. Listen to the interview HERE.
Night Beds – Country Sleep
“The guy is blessed with jump-out-of-the-gym vocal athleticism…the beautiful, new stranger in town.” - Pitchfork
“Gregarious and unassuming in appearance, he looks like any other 23 year-old from Colorado Springs, but when he sat down at the microphone and opened his mouth to sing the a capella “Faithful Heights,” we all fell completely silent. Dumbstruck. That voice just flies out of him, with no warning….I think Winston’s efforts could be one of the most notable and promising of the year that lies ahead of us.” – Fuel/Friends
“There’s a lot of dudes out there with sad tales of heartbreak and failure, but to be honest, they never sound this good.” – MTV Hive
NBC’s Oresti Tsonopoulos had the chance to sit down with Winston Yellen, the “angel-voiced frontman” of Night Beds, while he was in New York City a month or so ago for a sold out show at Pianos. So far we’ve learned Winston loves cooking, reading and hanging out with old men. What else does he fancy? Watch the interview above to find out!
Winston and the rest of the guys head out on the road in mid February. The tour includes dates with Indians and Cat Martino. Check out the full schedule HERE.
We are incredibly excited to welcome Night Beds to the Dead Oceans family. Led by 23-year old songwriter, Winston Yellen, Night Beds hail from Nashville, TN by way of Colorado Springs. Winston boasts a new, great American voice with a specific brand of intimate thirst that few musicians possess.
Today, we get the pleasure of hearing Night Beds’ first single “Even If We Try.” It’s only fitting this stunning single was recorded in the former Hendersonville home of country-music legend, Johnny Cash. Watch Winston and lap-steel musician, Caleb Hickman, perform “Even If We Try” live in a church – you’ll find the video below or stream the audio version HERE. Read the rest of this entry »
