Bleached’s ‘Can You Deal?’ EP + New Video for “Can You Deal?” Out Today

Posted on 03/03/2017

Bleached, led by sisters Jennifer and Jessica Clavin, have released the Can You Deal? EP today. Alongside the release they’ve shared a new video directed by Ryan Baxley for the title track, a song which deals with the band’s frustrations with gender bending used to define their music and the reductive habit of referring to them and others as “girl bands.” Jennifer Clavin describes the video,

“When Ryan told us his idea for this video we were excited because it reminded us of a Twilight Zone episode. In this story, our “human band” is viewed as extraterrestrial to the alien world, and we are trying to put an end to the exploitive media station known as “Singular World News.” We loved the idea of taking what this song is about, how being women in music is still viewed as a novelty, to a more dramatic level where we the humans are the aliens in this alternate society.”

Jennifer Clavin is publishing the limited edition “Can You Deal?” Zine, a collection of shared experiences on this subject through essay, visual art, poetry, lyrics and more from artists.
