Album Release: Listen to Marlon Williams’ New Album, ‘Make Way for Love,’ Out Now

Today sees the release of Make Way For Love, the sophomore album by New Zealand’s Marlon Williams. Known for his effortlessly distinctive voice, Williams shows exponential growth as a songwriter throughout Make Way For Love’s 11 original songs as he reveals himself in an unprecedented way in the wake of a fractured relationship.

Release week kicked off with an excellent performance on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” where Williams and The Yarra Benders played a selection of songs off the new album, including lead single “Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore,” and proceeded with NPR Music presenting Williams’ Tiny Desk Concert taped late last year. Here he performed a cover of “When I Was A Young Girl,” in which Bob Boilen commented, “Marlon Williams’ rendition is more stunning than any version I’ve heard . . . The purity of Marlon Williams’ voice is rare and entrancing,” plus Make Way For Love’s “What’s Chasing You,” and standalone single “Vampire Again,” before closing with the album’s title track. As Boilen further stated “it reveals an intimacy at the heart of what makes [Williams] such a magnetic artist.”

Marlon Williams’ largest ever headline tour kicks off next week in the UK. He’ll bring his incredible live show to North America in early March. Additionally, Marlon will support Brandi Carlile at theaters in Seattle and New York this spring.

Watch Marlon Williams’ New “Come To Me” Video

New Zealand’s Marlon Williams will release Make Way For Love on February 16th – and we couldn’t be more excited for you to hear it. Throughout 11 original songs, Williams reveals himself in an unprecedented way in the wake of a fractured relationship. But while this sophomore album draws on his own story, it also captures the emotional ups-and-downs of relationships we’ve all been through. New single, “Come To Me,” presents the blissful side of that spectrum. The song’s accompanying video, directed by Martin Sagadin, features Williams and his band – David Khan (guitar), Ben Woolley (bass), and Angus Agars (drums) – enjoying a day off at the Lyttelton Skate Park in their hometown. You can watch the video below.

Make Way For Love was recorded with producer Noah Georgeson (known for his work with Joanna Newsom and Cate Le Bon) and Marlon’s backing band, The Yarra Benders, in North California’s Panoramic Studios after several weeks of pre-production in Lyttelton. The finished result moves Marlon several paces from “country” with forays into cinematic strings, reverb, rollicking guitar and at least one quiet piano ballad. You can pre-order your own copy via the link above, and catch a Marlon set during one of the tour dates below.

Watch the New Video for Marlon Williams’ “What’s Chasing You”

New Zealand’s Marlon Williams will release his sophomore album, Make Way For Love, on February 16th. After presenting the “ethereal rocker” (American Songwriter) “Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore,” a duet with Aldous Harding, Williams now shares “What’s Chasing You” and its accompanying video directed by Martin Sagadin.

Williams explains, “It’s an earnest question. It’s the only thing I’ve ever really wanted to know of another human being. Like all good questions, it’s childishly simple. We all want to live inside the fears of the ones we love, if not to dispel them then at the very least to understand, empathize and let’s be honest, compare hands. I’m not convinced truly understanding another’s woes would really bring anyone happiness, but I am a nosey boy. What’s chasing you?”

This year Williams will take his live show to 46 cities around the world for his largest ever headline tour. All dates are below.

Marlon Williams Announces Sophomore LP, ‘Make Way For Love,’ Out February 16th

https://marlon-williams.lnk.to/makewayforlove

Let’s start off your Wednesday with some good news, why don’t we? We’re so over the moon to announce New Zealand’s Marlon Williams will release his sophomore album, Make Way For Love, on February 16th. Known for his effortlessly distinctive voice, Make Way For Love marks Marlon’s exponential growth as a songwriter. Throughout 11 original songs, he explores new musical terrain and reveals himself in an unprecedented way in the wake of a fractured relationship.

In conjunction with today’s album announcement, Marlon announces an international tour and shares the album’s penultimate track, “Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore,” a duet with Aldous Harding, recorded via a late-night long distance phone call, plus an accompanying video filmed in New York City.

While Make Way For Love draws on Marlon’s own story, it captures the vagaries of relationships we’ve all been through: the bliss, ache, uncertainty, and bitterness. Like the best breakup records, Make Way For Love doesn’t shy away from heartbreak, but rather stares it in the face, and mines beauty from it. Delicate and bold, tender and searing, it’s a mightily personal new step.

Make Way For Love was recorded with producer Noah Georgeson and his backing band, The Yarra Benders, in North California’s Panoramic Studios after several weeks of pre-production in his native Lyttelton, New Zealand with regular collaborator Ben Edwards. The finished result is an expansive record that moves Marlon several paces from “country” — the genre that’s been affixed to him more than any in recent years — with forays into cinematic strings, reverb, rollicking guitar, and at least one quiet piano ballad.

Currently in the midst of a sold out global preview tour to support his stand alone single, “Vampire Again,” Marlon will take his live show to dozens of cities around the world next year for his largest ever headline tour. All dates are below. Tickets for North America will be on sale Nov. 10th at http://www.marlonwilliams.co.nz/.
