Lyrics from The Tallest Man On Earth’s “There’s No Leaving Now”

The Tallest Man On Earth’s new record, There’s No Leaving Now, is out June 12th. Kristian shares lyrics from the album. Read below.

To Just Grow Away

We’re melting ruby hearts
a confusing trade
to burn the ore
to shape a blade
then to swing it low
beginners fate
to lose a skin
to just grow away
Like a rain, to help a river
but a river so hard to please
but I’ve grown to see the diamonds
you’ve thrown in just for me
We spent so many nights
just gathering stones
the silver tears
old sapphire bones
all the copper leaves
then dreamt, now true
look how they find their path
to cut right through
Like a rain, to help a river
but a river so hard to please
but I’ve grown to see the diamonds
you’ve thrown in just for me
Look when your hopeless child will figure
there are moments when hope’s not
only real when flagging far down a road
with an armful broken arrows
and no hand free for the bow
your kid will lose a battle
but your ways
will let him go
I lose my wish to drown
and aimless flee
what you’ve thrown to lose
is still right here with me.

Revelation Blues

I was more than just a coward
I was handsome too
I felt nothing when your flood came down
holding fines that made me wonder if the lights were wrong
with my hands that never touched no ground
when your talent is in numbers
of the many times you’re gone
I could lie I don’t care about forgiving
but sometimes it’s just roses dying too young
As I’m fencing up the hours
in the fields of red
while you think I’m on a loveless straight
in the letters from the lovers in a land gone wrong
explanations always written late
when your talent curse the framing
of the crying you heard sung
I could lie I don’t care about what’s missing
but sometimes it’s just roses dying too young
your train of thoughts is always passing here
with its falling paint, and its broken gears
it’s the damn revelation blues when you see the path
and you know you won’t be the last,
oh lord…
I was more than just a terror
I was crying too
but you showed me in the gusts between
that a wind is sometimes broken and its flying path
has no meaning nor a ghost within
when your talent is in hiding
that your feeling is always wrong
I always want to bring you something
but sometimes it’s just roses dying too young.

Leading me now

By the eyes of the very young
it’s a sudden good attack
on our weakness, my horse and I
carry anger forth and back
but we’ll make it somehow
you have all what’s mine
and you are leading me now
On the gallop to mother’s field
we would lose our breath and fight
and you give me the look of thorns
we give liars every night
but I get you somehow
leave the reins inside
you are leading me now
and everytime we wonder
what we left back in your hearts
could you see we’re dreaming
though our minds just fall apart
but we will end up somehow
with a peaceful mind
and you are leading me now
To the site where I flew from you
when your pace just scared me blind
we will come back and joke of days
when I sold you to the unkind
we will end up somehow
with a peaceful mind
and you are leading me now.

1904

Some will say it’s not even funny
and there you stand, not even trying
they say it is in line with the aging
sometimes noise is just your mind
but the lesson is vague and the lightning
shows a deer with her mind on the moore
and now something with the sun is just different
since they shook the earth in 1904
as I lower down I hear it’s a message
and it’s 1902 telling people to get out
if there was a just a way I could tell them
it’s been long, but you are right.
the singing is slow and so quiet
like the sound when you sweep off the floor
and now something with the dirt is just different
since they shook the earth in 1904
when the night is young
but the bridge is up
something passing by our shore
the only one you can tell it to
is the only one that will know
As one rock was made to go through my window
here is something so strange and something louder than before
you’re living with no light or direction but damn precise,
and now you know
that believing is hard but you go now
and you feel what you drag across the floor
and now something in these trails is just different
since they shook the earth in 1904
Some will say it’s not even healthy
but body is young and mind is shure
that at least something is alright with your thinking
because they shook the earth in 1904.

Bright Lanterns

We have clear blue waking skies
and the morning after
and memories of gold on the run
flying around
was there a drunken cloud
over someone just empty
a vision of a mountain you said
so where did it go
I was light and I held it like a child to be saved
from the fires, from the falling down sattelites
but still wondering
Damn, you always treat me like a stranger, mountain
though you’ve seen the shadow between the city and what is mine
and fallen kids, all rising mad among their lost believers
suddenly darker in their eyes and their broken smiles
It’s only what these kids will haul around
There’s a lot of selling land for hungry feet of answers
and medicine for balance and things, like seeing your ghosts
thank god we’re bright, said the lantern’s brother,
because I don’t know a thing about boats, or the land I see…
It was day and i stood there once again, climbing equipped
when I knew you were the one throwing dying stars
on our gathering
but he said, damn, you always treat me like a mountain, stranger
though I have never seen your shadows or fading lights
I’m just a rock that you’ll be picking up through all your ages
always believing there’s a canyon for every blind
it’s only what these kids will haul around.

There’s no leaving now

When there’s no one here in the tryouts
who will live through your first day’s trial
of confusion when your faint and crooked smile
had to leave
When you’re painted like a warrior
though you know it’s a raining war
when the first who spoke, but wasn’t really shure
was your heart
Your fear of the leading light
if they are with you and your heart won’t fail
To see through a fearless eye
and know that danger finally goes away
still you’re trying
but there’s no leaving now
With your quiet devotion
to be lost like your child again
claim forever is a close and honest friend
to your ways
will there be time to harvest rivers
that for so long refused to grow
all the little things you need to build a home
for your love
Your fear of the leading light
if they are with you and your heart won’t fail
To see through a fearless eye
and know that danger finally goes away
still you’re trying
but there’s no leaving now.

Wind and walls

‘All is well in order’ is what you thought you heard them say
so you drifted off to see what’s not in yourself
light is turning slowly will it lay out on the plains?
no more nights of what you wrote back then
no relief of no rain
Singing songs of rivers tied to accidents within
telling people lies of lions, treasures and kings
nothing is more revealing than the dancer and the doubt
waving to forget what’s never gone, always there, never right
In all these riots of broken sounds
This is wind and walls and weathered leaves and tearing sails
minnows in your pockets when the rapid’s on trails
this is not the future but I sense it’s right up there
just another hour, another pass, another day anywhere
Inside these riots of broken sounds
We don’t know if your treasure is safe
where will you be when they find you son?
and you know they’re always following me
so when I get there you trust me son, and just leave,
I’ll catch up
This is where you’re passionate of seasons and their strength
this is where you breathe and walk and know they will end
light is turning slowly to the hand upon your chest
so lay it on the plains where there is time, there is love, there is rest
From all these riots of broken sounds
We don’t know if your treasure is safe
where will you be when they find you son?
and you know they’re always following me
I’ll be your best when the silence comes.

Little Brother

Are you thinking again, Little brother
you know there’s a story for every wrong
I won’t be around in the morning
can only pray there’s no harm in me moving on
to my trials and your unknown
Now there’s a legion of wolves in the forest
and what might have been lost it is there I know
terrible names, loving owners
I feel useless when I have to face alone
all your trials and my unknown
If you could just walk on by
with signs just flying around
and if this storm was just the motion
of your kid just trying out
if he could only lose these miles
Now there’s a terrible light on the shading
where you threw your insanities on a wall
I can see where the dog hits the summer
I said I believe you, forever, but you said don’t
it’s a trial for all that grows
If you could just walk on by
with signs just flying around
and if this storm was just the motion
of your kid just trying out
if he could only lose these miles
Why are you drinking again, Little Brother
when your rambling’s the hard part of loving you
you say the creek and that fog wants to drown you
but there are deeper of wells where we’re going to
there’s no drought in this unknown
With your memories lost on a hillside
a wind takes you further and forward now
your world is a kite in the wheater
gently tied to your hand that is pointing out
there’s a sky in this unknown.

Criminals

There were days when you thought you would just go under
and the weekends that you never understood
when you flew from the bar only seventeen
you didn’t bleed and no one ever thought you would
And there where straights and lines and every sorts of options
to stay away from broken mirrors in your friends
but the summer was strung with some mighty thread
and no law would never wait around no bend
Come see the hiding in rain, come see the stillness in all them ones
Come see the loveable strain of someone diving for all you know
Come see the strain of a reeling tribe
Come meet the criminals, this Napoleon ride
And there were the nights when you thought we would just surrender
to the stories of the miracles of gulls
when you flew from your sheets where your hours gone
you never sleep and no one ever thought you would
Come see the hiding in rain, come see the stillness in all them ones
Come see the loveable strain of someone diving for all you know
Come see the strain of a reeling tribe
Come meet the criminals, of this Napoleon ride
There are illusions and then just not even wanting
to walk around a shiny peak of snow
what a picture that is to be saved for us
how it’s standing like it’s just for us to know
there was a time in my life when I was carried by all of you
now I run like a man still don’t know what I dive into
Come see the strain of a reeling tribe
Come meet the criminals, this Napoleon ride.

On every page

When you just tell them what I cannot say
when you just shine upon the ghosts along my way
I drop the game of throwing knives alone
there must be marks on every tree
from the past to our home
Only the mayfly used to tell me so
now here is august, drop your weight, just let go
now midnight sun takes turns with northern lights
will I ever have to feel what those blades were about?
In that sound of sighing, that empty howl
and all the everloving bends in the line of your tries
some ends forgotten and some others believed
whatever happened to the boy is now a tale for the seas
when you know you’re already young
like the grass wither to become
again and free,
it’s all we’ll ever be
I don’t remember where i learned to dive
but I am humble for the rocks when I try
and somehow I am lowered onto the waves
now with you I feel the sun and the salt on my face
In that sound of sighing, that empty howl
and all the everloving bends in the line of your tries
some ends forgotten and some others believed
whatever happened to the boy is now a tale for the seas
when you know you’re already young
like the grass wither to become
again and free,
it’s all we’ll ever be
The tired motion of the rusty bell
just humming, visitor I quit, go to hell
I’ve been the tower but now walk along
there must be marks on every page
from the past to these songs.
