Akron/Family Share New Single, Announce SXSW Dates

Akron/Family premiered their new single, along with an interview, today at SPIN. Titled “Until the Morning,” the new single echos a change in in Akron’s writing style and the place they derive their lyrical meaning. “I feel like we’re telling our own story now and it’s less fairy tale,” shares Miles. Akron/Family Announce Additional Tour Dates with Avi Buffalo, Performance at Sasquatch

Akron/Family announce additional dates for their forthcoming spring tour! A fourth musician, M Geddes Gengras, will join the band for synth and percussion duties for the entire tour! Gengras will also give solo performances prior to Akron/Family for the majority of shows. You can check out the new dates below! Don’t overlook that SASQUATCH Festival performance (yay!).

Akron/Family Announce New Album – ‘Sub Verses’ and Spring Tour Dates, Stream First Single Now

Akron/Family return this spring with their new album, Sub Verses! The record is out on April 30; pre-order information will be available in the weeks to come. For now, stream the first single. Akron/Family’s Seth Olinsky Has a New Side Project –> CY DUNE

Akron/Family’s Seth Olinsky has been out in Tucson, AZ over the last year, “reading all the Dune books and a bunch of Cormac McCarthy while exploring American primitivist musics through the lens of Dylan, extreme tube saturation, and wild West African guitar musics.” His adventure has morphed into a new project he’s calling Cy Dune and a record is very much in the works; in fact, Seth is mixing it now. Recording the music in both Tucson and Brooklyn, Seth invited musicians Shahzad Ismaily, Andrew Barker, William Parker, Dave Hartley and Chris Powell to join in on the making. Family Tree Records is putting out a SUPER SUPER limited, hand-etched 7″ of new CY Dune songs, “No Recognize” amd “Yellin’.” Only 20 copies will be created on square, clear vinyl. Purchase HERE.

The Asian University for Women Choir Sings Akron/Family’s “Another Sky”

We have something incredibly special to share today. The Society of International Musicians have taken on Akron/Family’s “Another Sky” and done so beautifully. Led by Director Illya Riske and based in Bangladesh, the group is the Asian University for Women’s choir and is comprised of students from Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, China, Palestine and Myanmar. The song is just one of many the choir has chosen to perform. You can stream “Another Sky” below. The song and the rest of the choir’s album is available for purchase via Bandcamp. All proceeds go to fund the growing music program, more specifically to provide guitar lessons and instruments to the young women. Learn more about the school and choir HERE.
