Watch Alex Lahey Make Her Network Television Debut on Late Night With Seth Meyers

Last night, Alex Lahey took the stage at Late Night With Seth Meyers to make her network television debut. Lahey and her band — composed of Lahey (vocals, guitar), Sam Humphrey (guitar), Jonathan Skourletos (bass), and Lachie McGeehan (drums) — performed “Every Day’s The Weekend,” the blazing opener from Lahey’s acclaimed debut album, I Love You Like A Brother, out now. Check out the performance below.

Earlier this week, Lahey kicked off her first North American tour in support of I Love You Like A Brother at Great Scott in Boston. To celebrate the expansive tour, which takes Lahey and her band all across the east coast, midwest, south, and west coast, Lahey is sharing a special solo version of Brother closer “There’s No Money,” which premiered yesterday via Brooklyn Vegan. The intimate performance was captured by Gabe Wax in early October at Rare Book Room in NY.

Tonight, Lahey and her band play World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. A full list of upcoming tour dates can be found at the bottom of the blog post.

Alex Lahey has the uncanny ability to make you feel seen, truly seen, even though she’s a complete stranger. What can we say? She gets it. Her songs are anthemic, blunt, and pack a buzz somewhere between a caffeine rush and the feeling you get when you see your crush. Her debut album, I Love You Like A Brother, is out now.

That means you could click play and ride off on a wave of pop chords so big your feet won’t touch the ground. What’s more, she’s touring the states this fall & winter. Scroll down to see a full list of stops.

Alex Lahey Shares “I Haven’t Been Taking Care of Myself”

Being honest, either with yourself or someone else, can be hard as hell. More often than not is easier to sweep your thoughts under a mental rug, rather than summon the courage to face the truth. Yet somehow, Alex Lahey makes it seem so damn easy. “I Haven’t Been Taking Care Of Myself” is an utterly confident profession of not being okay – the chorus a chaser of pure, blissful relief of laying it all out there.

Can you listen to this without feeling that? Can you listen without grabbing a hairbrush, broom, whatever’s closest and singing along? This song seeps into your pores like warm sunlight after a few cloudy days in a row. It just feels good. Lahey discusses the song, saying:

“A lot of the songs on the record are about the relationships that we engaging in with other people. ‘I Haven’t Been Taking Care Of Myself’ deviates from that in that it’s about the relationship that we have with ourselves and how that is reflected in the way we bring others into our lives. If you feel shit about yourself, you’re generally going to get off on the wrong foot with someone else.”

The video for the song, directed and illustrated by renowned Australian street artist Callum Preston, took over 14 hours and comprises 1,800 still photographers to assemble.

Lahey will bring her tour in support of I Love You Like A Brother stateside this November, kicking off in Boston on Wed., November 15th. A full list of tour dates are below.

Alex Lahey Shares “Lotto In Reverse”

You thought today was just another Tuesday, didn’t you? You woke up expecting to drop your feet to the floor, shuffle to the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee before heading to work. But guess what. This is the song you wish was playing on your alarm clock when you woke up. This is what will get you through that morning commute. This is is what will be waiting for you as you skip out of work for the day.

“Lotto In Reverse” is live on all streaming services on August 29th (which is today). So go ahead and pop this tale of throwing caution to the wind (and taking that risk that just doesn’t pay off) to your go-to playlist. Be sure to catch Alex Lahey on tour this fall! All dates below.

Alex Lahey Announces Debut Album, ‘I Love You Like A Brother’, Out October 6th

Born and raised in Melbourne, Alex Lahey initially studied jazz saxophone at university but unimpressed with “learning music in such a regimented way” she switched to an arts degree. Lahey’s debut album, I Love You Like A Brother (out October 6th), drops fresh off the back of Lahey’s breakthrough EP in 2016, B-Grade University. Both releases build on her tenure with cult music collective Animaux which allowed Lahey the musical anarchy she yearned in school – hell, she booked the band their first gig before they’d even prepared a single song.

Today we’re excited to share “Everyday’s The Weekend” along with a fantastic video counterpart. We’ve all felt the ennui of a dead end job, but somehow Lahey makes it feel almost…fun? Enjoy the clip above & stream the single here – alexlahey.lnk.to/weekend.

Brother finds Lahey back in the studio with production partner, and one-half of Holy Holy, Oscar Dawson (Ali Barter, British India). The pair pushed each other to create an intimate sonic experience that comprises scuzzy guitars thrumming over pop melodies, helmed by Lahey’s unfussy but arresting vocals. The album’s songs traverse the everyday themes of family, heartbreak and identity. Lahey tells her stories with character and dry humor – “I’ve figured it out,” she sings in “Awkward Exchange,” “you’re a bit of a dick” – but there are also moments of darkness. In “Taking Care” she muses, “I’ve gained weight and I drink too much, maybe that’s why you don’t love me as much.” The poignant “Backpack” is a tribute to Lahey’s latest relationship, and the unsure start it got off to.

The themes of Alex Lahey’s album might be universal, but it’s the unique approach she takes unpacking them that’s earned her a Best New Track on Pitchfork, glowing press from the likes of Entertainment Weekly, Stereogum, NYLON, Noisey, a spot in the Australian radio network triple j’s prestigious Hottest 100 of 2016 & more.

Lahey will bring her tour in support of I Love You Like A Brother stateside this November, kicking off in Boston on Wed. November 15th. A full list of tour dates is below.
