John Vanderslice Offers Special Pre-Order for White Wilderness, Download “Sea Salt”

DOC052

Upon the arrival of White Wilderness, take a closer look at the recording process that allowed John Vanderslice to happily spend only a few days to record a studio album. The songs are more effortless and carefree in their execution yet more expansive in their arrangements, due to his collaboration with the Magik*Magik Orchestra. Yours Truly documented the making of the album, and we are pleased to share this album trailer.

Top 5 Rookie Moments of 2K10: Confessions of a Publicist

As the latest addition to the Dead Oceans/Jagjaguwar/Secretly Canadian family, I’ve been getting wedgies, noogies and wet willies like no other these past few months. I’ve had a lot of noob/rookie/freshman moments too. Here are my top 5 favorite.

1. VIP

Not too long after I was first hired, the Bloomington crew (And Phil from Austin) came up for Pitchfork Music Festival. It wasn’t that different from this post. I tried to stalk Raekwon to no avail and had too much free beer. Free beer will never get old!

doc052full

John Vanderslice’s “Sea Salt” is featured on today’s All Songs Considered! You can also stream the track here. Robin Hilton premiered the skinny on the new album, White Wilderness, which will be out January 25. Hilton remarks that the new material is just the right amount of expansion parred with the familiar sound and comfort JV is known for. Bob Boilen said it might be the best thing he’s heard from John Vanderslice.

You might remember JV and the Magik*Magik Orchestra’s performance in early 2009 at San Fransisco’s American Music Hall.

And that’s about everything we can tell you about White Wilderness, but be sure expect more in the coming days!

New JV Videos At One Night Music

Look at this handsome man!  John Vanderslice and his band member Jamie Riotto did a live session for Pirate Cat Radio in San Francisco back in July, and One Night Music posted several really hi-quality video recordings of the session as well as some nice photographs.

Below is the video they shot for “Too Much Time,” but there are several more great videos at their site here.

The answer is that, no, JV is actually quite well.  In fact, he will be hitting the road (and CMJ) with The Extra Lens, who has a new album coming out on Merge.  The Extra Lens is John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats and Franklin Bruno of the Human Hearts. We get stoked brains every time JV and John Darnielle are mentioned in the same paragraph – this will be a great tour.

10/20/10 Washington, DC – The Rock and Roll Hotel
10/21/10 New York, NY – Mercury Lounge (CMJ Showcase)
