Following the much lauded release of White Wilderness, John Vanderslice will go on tour this spring, bringing you the essence behind the lush collaboration with Minna Choi and The Magik*Magik Orchestra as well as those JV fan favorites.

Joining him will be drummer/percussionist Jason Slota. This tour will very much be an intimate affair, much like the shows the duo have recently been playing in the Bay Area. The photo below says it all.

Most of the tour support will come from Damien Jurado, who JV just played a house show with in Tacoma, WA. Stay tuned for some sweet footage of that night!

Full tour dates, after ze jump.

John Vanderslice Guest Editor on Magnet all week!

3hhs_17510001

If having taste isn’t half the battle, but the whole war, then John Vanderslice is a true conquerer. You will come across very few people with such an open mind and expansive palette.

This week, you can read about some of JV’s favorite things (kinda’ like Oprah’s, but not really) via Magnet’s weekly guest editor series. In his first post, he writes about the exceptional French film, The Class. One might think the story of an inner city school and its new teacher  (To Sir, with Love; Dangerous Minds, etc.) has been exhausted, but this is a tremendous film, and only the beginning of JV’s suggestions!

Also check out the Q&A with JV on Magnet, in which he discusses his latest album, White Wilderness and collaborating with Minna Choi and the Magik*Magik Orchestra, living in the Golden Age of music, and how he now approves of Bill Gates.

With the help of the Magik*Magik Orchestra, ‘The Piano Lesson’ satisfyingly blends modern chamber music and Vanderslice’s idiosyncratic pop. The end result is a record that’s not only surprisingly loose, but also remarkably distinctive.

Today’s SOTD on NPR, “The Piano Lesson,” is available for download HERE.

John Vanderslice Offers Special Pre-Order for White Wilderness, Download “Sea Salt”

DOC052

Upon the arrival of White Wilderness, take a closer look at the recording process that allowed John Vanderslice to happily spend only a few days to record a studio album. The songs are more effortless and carefree in their execution yet more expansive in their arrangements, due to his collaboration with the Magik*Magik Orchestra. Yours Truly documented the making of the album, and we are pleased to share this album trailer.
