WATCH // Strand of Oaks Shares New “Goshen ’97” Video Dir. By Rick Alverson, New Album ‘HEAL’ Out June 24th

Strand of Oaks shared the first single “Goshen ’97” from upcoming album HEAL at the beginning of the month with praise from Stereogum calling it a “rocket-fueled nostalgia trip” and Pitchfork writing the song was “raw and reckless”. Today THE FADER premiered a new video for the track by director Rick Alverson [director of The Comedy] which puts Tim Showalter of Strand of Oaks in the main role. Watch the new video above, on THE FADER‘s website, or on our YouTube channel here.

On the video and director Alverson, Tim writes:

“It had been a dream of mine to work with Rick Alverson…[he] is a master of blending tragedy, humor, and catharsis, and that’s exactly what the song is about. It doesn’t celebrate the huge victories in life or mourn the heaviest memories. It’s about the moments between the ups and downs, where I believe we spend most of our lives. The days that aren’t shitty or particularly great, when you realize you’re one day farther from being young and you’re only getting older. Sometimes things so simple can be the most tragic.”

See Tim with a full band celebrating the new album’s release on June 26th at the Mercury Lounge in NYC. Get tickets here.

ALBUM ANNOUNCE // Dub Thompson ‘9 Songs’ Out 6/10, Watch “Dograces” Video Directed By Robert Beatty

We are excited to finally publicly welcome Dub Thompson to the Dead Oceans family! Today they announce a new album 9 songs coming out June 10th. The band, Matt Pulos on guitar and Evan Laffer on drums, recorded the album with Foxygen‘s Jonathan Rado at a rented house here in our hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. With no one song on the album the same, the two simultaneously draw from many predecessors including Can and Kraftwerk, Big Black, Pere Ubu, and more.

“Most everyone who’s in a group who’s our age lives on the Internet,” says 19-year old Pulos. “The kinds of things that have shaped our band aren’t anchored to any one time or place.”

Get acquainted with these talented dudes by watching the video above for their rollicking and slightly psychedelic debut single “Dograces” directed by Robert Beatty.

Pre-order the album on iTunes, your local record store, and through SC Distribution.

WATCH // Califone Shares One-Shot Video for “Movie Music Kills a Kiss”, Tour Starts January 5th

Last year Califone premiered three unique and beautiful videos for songs Frosted Tips, Bells Break Arms, and We are a Payphone. All three came from the band’s 2013 release, Stitches, which the Boston Globe called “Americana at its most haunted” and Pitchfork said “[Stitches] is exactly the sort of Americana record that can act as antidote for what’s happening in the genre right now.”

To ring in 2014, Tim Rutili shares a truly stunning and dreamy one-shot short film at 96 frames per second for “Movie Music Kills a Kiss” featuring Rutili and Angela Bettis in the fourth visual off last year’s album. On the song and visual, Rutili says, “Movie music can add or subtract emotional weight or fool you into thinking nothing is something and something is nothing. Movie music really can kill a kiss.” Watch the slow motion love story above or here on YouTube.
