New Nurses MP3, Pre-Order w/Instant Download

Nurses share a new track today from their highly anticipated album, Dracula. The song, “Trying to Reach You” premiered this morning on Pitchfork’s Forkcast. Gentle piano over a vibey bass line complements shuffling and varied percussion that opens into a forest of instruments and layered vocals in a demonstration of what Pitchfork calls Nurses’ “avant-pop” sound. You can listen to the track here.

Dracula is also available for the first time TODAY for pre-order from SC Distribution. Each pre-order comes with an instant download of the full album. Vinyl and CD bundles are available and the instant download will include Dark Jordan Mixtape, a digital-only 9 track EP from the band, comprised of out-takes, home recordings and sound experiments.

The band will also do three in-store performances in their hometown of Portland on US release day. On Tuesday, September 20th Nurses will start at Jackpot Records at 4:30pm, then head to Everyday Music at 5:30pm and finish at Music Millennium at 7pm. The official album release show will follow on September 22nd at Holocene. Full tour dates are listed below.

The Donkeys Ride: Pre-Order Special, Massive US Tour, Release Party

The Donkeys — The Pride of San Diego — are about to release their finest record to date. Born with Stripes (released April 26 in the US) sheds a bit of  the golden SoCal twang of previous efforts and places to the fore the influence of some other Cali artists — notably Pavement and the folkier leanings of Beck. And with a pre-order special launched today, you can have the entire record for your first backyard BBQ of the year this weekend. Pre-order the album now, and you will receive an mp3 download of the entire record. If you’re one of the first 25 people to pre-order the record, you will receive a two free tickets for a show on The Donkeys massive U.S. tour when they visit your respective area. Hell, we’ll even get the dudes to give you a mid-set shout-out. Maybe buy you a shot (?!?). The lucky 25 will also receive a large poster featuring the killer Born with Stripes album art by badass illustrator Tony Millionaire, best known as creator of comics Maakies and Sock Monkey, as well as the Adult Swim show Drinky Cow. The throwback-psych album art contains several easter eggs alluding to various lyrics from the record. Think the art from Prince’s Around the World in a Day for the surfer set (See below). Truly a gem.

PRE-ORDER BORN WITH STRIPES

Before the national tour begins, The Donkeys have a hometown Born with Stripes record release blow-out planned for April 30 at San Diego’s Sushi Art. If you like rock music made by guitars, you should probably be there. Word has it there will be pinatas filled with booze (maybe in mini-bottle form, maybe just loose liquid). See all upcoming tour dates HERE.

The Luyas New Album Now Available for Pre-Order. Download the Title Track “Too Beautiful To Work.”

DOC055

The Luyas new album Too Beautiful To Work comes out Feb. 22, but you can pre-order the album today and receive an instant mp3 download of the full record along with a physical CD or LP copy by street date. Just go HERE to place your order.

In anticipation of the new release we are happy to share a new MP3 for the album’s title track. The song “Too Beautiful To Work” encapsulates everything we love about the Luyas in just under four minutes. It’s a song worth naming an album after, it’s futuristic pop filtered through a blown-out vintage tube amp. Jessie Stein’s elastic wordplay becomes another instrument, dancing atop the rhythmic keyboards and motorik beat. The layers of sound are dense and lush, augmented by the virtuosic violin of sometimes Luya and all the time Arcade Fire member Sarah Neufeld, and swirling sounds of clarinet and saxaphone, courtest of Colin Stetson. It is a song that feels like a mission statement, and we could not imagine the album Too Beautiful To Work opening any other way.
