The track is off of their upcoming album Time Is Over One Day Old out August 5th on Dead Oceans / Hometapes. In order to capture the unpredictability of the track, Director Nick Bentgen, along with band members Jon Philpot and Adam Wills shot the video over the course of three weeks, documenting a collage of people floating around Brooklyn at night. Watch the video above or on Youtube/Vevo.

ALBUM RELEASE // Dub Thompson ’9 Songs’ Out Now Worldwide, Tour With Ought Starts End Of June

Today Dub Thompson‘s new album 9 songs is out worldwide! The band, Matt Pulos on guitar and Evan Laffer on drums, recorded the album with Foxygen‘s Jonathan Rado at a rented house here in our hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. With no one song on the album the same, the two simultaneously draw from many predecessors including Can and Kraftwerk, Big Black, Pere Ubu, and more.

In honor of the release we are letting the band take over @DeadOceans on Twitter all today. To follow “Dub Oceans” click here.

Get the new album via iTunes, your local record store, SC Distribution, and through Amazon.

Critics praise the new album:

“Whole generations of basement-tape shenanigans are baked into their lurching, overdriven sound, alternatingly stripped-down and blown-out: Big Black, Liars, the Fall, and even the Burning Sensations’ version of Jonathan Richman’s “Pablo Picasso,” whose ropy bass line and sardonic delivery directly inform “Dograces”‘ Roto-Rooter blues”

- SPIN

“There is so much going on here — old-school funk, the Red Hot Chili Peppers before they sucked, Tame Impala, Kraut, trip-hop beats, convenience store muzak, old psychedelic records in the dollar bin at your local record store”

- Flavorwire

“throat-grabbing, shit-kicking intensity”

- Line of Best Fit

“It’s an impressive bit of music that hints at the band’s scrappy inhibition, and its allure all but comes from how unserious Dub Thompson take themselves”

- Pitchfork

The Dub dudes start their tour with Ought [Constellation] at the end of this month in Scottsdale, Arizona at Pub Rock.

ALBUM ANNOUNCE // Strand of Oaks New Album ‘HEAL’ Out June 24th, Stream “Goshen ’97″ Now

Today we are immensely grateful to welcome Strand of Oaks aka Tim Showalter to the ever-expanding Dead Oceans family. We’ve followed Tim closely and then were blown away by his live show when he toured with DOC artists Tallest Man On Earth and Matthew Houck aka Phosphorescent and also Damien Jurado from our sister label Secretly Canadian in the last two years. Now, we’re excited to announce Tim’s new record HEAL will be out on Dead Oceans June 24th.

On previous Strand of Oaks albums Tim displayed his knack for moving and dark folk and now on HEAL we see growth and change into an immersive sound with loud, punching guitar riffs and synth-heavy hooks akin to his recent touring show. Showalter says “I’m inspired by bands that go the distance, to a dangerous place…there’s an uncertainty to ‘HEAL’ that makes me nervous and excited at the same time. It’s sad, but it sounds like a celebration, like I’m crying and laughing and sticking both middle fingers in the air all at the same time.”

Preview the new album with the track “Goshen ’97″ above, an ode to his hometown of Goshen, Indiana and first finding music in his parent’s basement. Listen to the track, which premiered yesterday on World Cafe, on our YouTube / Soundcloud and it features Tim dueling guitars with rock god J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr..

Pre-order the new album via iTunes, Amazon, SC Distribution, and your local record store.

Stay tuned for more details and tour dates to be announced. Click read more for artwork and tracklisting.
