New York-based Egyptian-Belgian musician and singer Tamino has announced his signing to Dead Oceans. Alongside the announcement, out today is a new Thibaut Grevet-directed video for ‘Raven’, starring Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Corsage, Bergman Island). The song is taken from his 2025 album Every Dawn’s a Mountain.
On ‘Raven’ and its accompanying video, Tamino said:
“I called Thibaut Grevet a couple months ago with the question to make a video for ‘Raven’. I hadn’t really planned on making music videos for Every Dawn’s a Mountain, as I couldn’t really wrap my head around promoting this album in the typical way, for a number of reasons. I think I needed more distance from the songs to allow myself, or another creator to expand them into a visual world. On tour, I felt Raven becoming a crowd favorite, as well as one of mine. I gradually started to allow my mind to imagine a visual world for this song and thought it could be a beautiful last expression of the album, before closing this chapter.
“Thibaut proposed working with a striking, skilled actress and asked if anyone came to mind. One of my all time favorite movies is Phantom Thread so it didn’t take long for Vicky Krieps to enter the picture. It was all wishful thinking of course, but I eventually gathered the courage to send her a message with the question, to which she so gracefully responded that she would love to do it but had a full schedule till early spring. We planned accordingly, and were finally able to shoot when the sun made its return.”
Primarily written in his new home of New York City, but recorded in a New Orleans church, Brussels studio, and scattered hotel rooms while on tour, Every Dawn’s a Mountain marked a fresh start for an artist who headlines arenas in his native Europe and his ancestors’ Middle East. It combines his unforgettable three-octave vocal range with his guitar and Arabic oud, and not only showed why Tamino has ‘the most extraordinary voice’, as NPR Music proclaimed in an episode of All Songs Considered, but the ways he uses it to tell impassioned stories, harness a sound and share a vision that spans cultures and continents. Every Dawn’s a Mountain featured first-time collaborations with now label-mate Mitski (‘Sanctuary’) and more, and is an album that burst itself into existence, with its words burning well on their way out.
Next up, Tamino is headlining numerous European festivals this summer and working on a new album, which will mark his Dead Oceans debut.
