Kevin Morby Presents New Single/Video “PBJ”

Earlier this year, Kevin Morby released his eighth studio album, Little Wide Open. The album was widely praised by fans and critics alike, leading to appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and CBS Saturday Morning and rave reviews in New York Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Pitchfork, The Wall Street Journal, Stereogum, and more, with the latter crowning the album his “greatest collection of songs to date.”

Today, he unveils the new single, “PBJ.” The track was recorded by Morby and producer Aaron Dessner and features Andrew Barr on drums, Dessner on bass and guitar, Justin Vernon on guitar, and Morby handling the rest of the guitar and vocals. 

Morby reflects, “Once, long ago, a friend described the act of driving with the windows down while still blasting the air conditioning as ‘Peanut Butter Jelly.’ She told me this phrase was common where she came from but no one I’ve ever talked to has said the same nor can I find anything about it online. But I always loved the phrase and have used it ever since. I also love a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (and all its variations) and so this is a very fun song for me. An end of summer song. Listen to it with the windows down…and the air conditioning up.

Partnering up with Kevin on “PBJ” are some of his favorite establishments, including Van Leeuwen Ice Cream (a  PBJ ice cream flavor at select locations), legendary New Orleans sandwich shop Turkey and The Wolf  (custom PBJ hat & burger), Los Angeles bakery Bub and Grandma’s (in-store performance), New York City’s Culture Espresso (PBJ cookie) and Rockaway Beach Bakery (PBJ croissant), Memphis’ Global Cafe (PBJ drink, with  $2 per drink sold going to Second Chance Kitchen), Durham’s Ideal’s Sandwich and Grocery (PBJ sandwich) and Kansas City’s Heirloom Bakery  (multiple menu items, including a PBJ ice cream sandwich) and Mr D’s Donut Shop (PBJ donut).

Additionally, Kevin will be joined by special guest Katie Crutchfield (of Waxahatchee) for an upcoming Grammy Museum interview (conducted by Jenny Eliscu) and performance on September 22nd in Los Angeles. Tickets are limited and the event is almost sold out.
