Last month, Kevin Morby announced A Night At The Little Los Angeles, a 4-track demo version of Sundowner, out October 8th on Dead Oceans. Today, he presents “Sundowner (4-Track Demo),” the bare bones of the final track. “In this demo of ‘Sundowner’ you’ll notice a few differences from the album version,” explains Morby. “Wait for it!” It precedes next month’s kick off of his “Fall Mixer” North American tour with Hamilton Leithauser. They’ll both perform with a full band and will travel across the country in support of their latest releases. Tickets for all dates are on sale now and a full list of dates can be found below.

A Night At The Little Los Angeles was made at home in Morby’s back shed – aka “The Little Los Angeles” and the album’s namesake. Recording on a 4-track, these 2017 and 2018 sessions spurred the first glimpses of Sundowner. In Morby’s words,“my goal was to capture the essence of these initial recordings, and here you will now have access to the very essence I was chasing.” A Night At The Little Los Angeles presents publicly for the first time Morby’s songwriting process. “Many of my favorite recordings have been made inside of an artist’s home with little to no regard of the outside world, but instead deep in their own that they are building in real time,” says Morby. “And with that – I’d like to invite you into my own little world here and now and ask you to please step inside and spend A Night At The Little Los Angeles.”
Additionally, Kevin Morby has scored the upcoming drama Montana Story, his first original music for film. Full soundtrack details will follow. Shot quietly during the pandemic last fall, the film is directed by David Siegel and Scott McGehee, whose many collaborations include Bee Season and What Maisie Knew. Montana Story is their latest film and received its world premiere on Saturday, September 11th at the Toronto International Film Festival. More details can be found here.
