Fresh from his last shows of 2018 in Europe, and winning Album of the Year at the New Zealand Music Awards, Marlon Williams has released a music video for “Beautiful Dress” from his acclaimed sophomore album Make Way For Love, which was released earlier this year via Dead Oceans.
Directed by Charlotte Evans (Aldous Harding, Tiny Ruins), the video features Williams at home in his natural habitat. Of the video, Williams explains there’s “nothing so heartbreaking as nothing. When I think about the people I love preparing a meal in their homes, doing the dishes, carrying out the bare minimum actions of survival, it makes me want to cry. This is an exploration of the mundane. It’s not even an exploration. It’s just someone hanging out. It’s nothing.”
The past year has been a monumental year for Marlon Williams, with the release of his second album, sold out shows around the world, over 20 major festival appearances, and a role in one of the biggest international films of the year A Star Is Born, alongside Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
Williams has also swept the major awards in his home country, winning the APRA Silver Scroll for Song of the Year, and both Best Solo Artist and Album of the Year at the 2018 New Zealand Music Awards. He now turns to the studio with both a collaborative release and new solo music due for 2019, plus another acting project, major tours with Florence & The Machine, and a first-time orchestra show with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
